“Suicide Squad” and “Sausage Party” Review

“Sausage Party” envisions insanity itself, through the lives of food (and that one item used to clean your body.) It’s like a Disney movie on acid, which is much expected coming from the outside-the-box minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The animation itself was an amazing joke replication of Pixar. The voice acting is on point and the humor is amazing, if you get it, that is. If dirty, vulgar and gross jokes are not your thing, this is not the movie for you.
Behind the sexual comments and talking foods, “Sausage Party” has the same basic plot as most action movies: saving the day with romance included. “It was stupid,” I heard from many mouths upon my departure from the theatre. Though many, more mature adults did leave the movie still laughing, and cracking sausage and bun jokes.
In complete honesty, when referring to movies as being stupid I believe that they can be broken up into two sections. Category one could mean it was horrid, don’t watch it. It was a waste of money and a good hour and a half of my life. I felt that this movie fell into the second category. The option that it was so idiotic and pointless it made us laugh. A good example of this could be “South Park,” “The Simpsons,” need I go on?
As I’ve said before, the plot of this movie is the basic hero story. The talking foods turn it comedic and the sexual innuendos turns “Sausage Party” into something you’ve never seen before. If you and a fellow adult, keyword adult, want a comedic laugh, watch it. If the $18 you would spend on this movie is the same $18 you’ve been saving towards groceries, buy the groceries. This movie is not a masterpiece, just a fun time for fans who share enjoyment in this type of humor.
I saw “Suicide Squad” the week it came out for my best friend’s birthday. I even bought the tickets ahead of time, which is something I never do. Even with the bad reviews and negative feedback that I’ve been reading and hearing about, the theater was still packed and to be honest, the reviews didn’t do it justice.
Yes, the way that the final battle ended had me angry and wanting a remake of that scene. The finale closed with a couple of sassy words from Harley to Enchantress; I wanted a huge final blow. The fact that they all got sent back to jail after they saved the world had me yelling at the screen too!
I mean, I understand that they were criminals to begin with, but they saved the world. At least let them live in the world they rescued. Lastly, the Joker and Harley scene at the end was cliché, but the movie itself was an idea never before thought of.
Yes, we’ve had Marvel movies before along with DC, but neither in the past have ever created a bad team that does good. It was like breaking the third wall, with the concept of evil vs evil, of course. I was extremely excited to know that my favorite upcoming artist, Kehlani, had her new song “Gansta” in the movie as well.
For a first attempt at a concept never before thought of, I thought it was a brave choice and the outcome of “Suicide Squad” was excellent compared to past films like “Batman vs Superman.” Yes, I said it, but on the bright side, as a die-hard superhero/supervillain fan I am looking forward to the upcoming “Wonder Woman” movie as well.
