Students Fall in Love With Fall At RRLG’s Fall Fest

The Saint Rose Record Label hosted Fall Fest on Friday, Oct. 13, welcoming students to come and watch 11 musical performances put on by Saint Rose students. The show took place on the loading dock outside of the Massry Center for the Arts. This was the first live performance for several new artists as well as an opportunity for established groups to promote their new and existing material.

Several Saint Rose students attended the event, gathering in the parking lot to watch the show. Some students came wearing their favorite group’s tee-shirts and a few came in Halloween-themed attire. Despite the cold weather, most students stayed for the entire duration of the event to support the performing acts.

The event was hosted by Penny Sierra, a member of the Rose Record Label Group. Sierra started the evening off with a speech welcoming the audience and introducing the event. Sierra referred to Fall Fest as “an opportunity to see what local artists have to offer,” and as “a way to bring people together,” in her opening remarks. “At the record label we are trying to provide different types of workshops and learning opportunities for people in the area to create and share their music,” she said.

The artists that performed throughout the evening were Cat Eggs, Veil, Soul, Superbird, Lookah Dee, the Chamber Jazz Ensemble, Golden Notes, CPS, Yuki Unknown, Clinton Lane, and Solar Tyde. For groups such as Superbird and Cat Eggs, this was their debut for a live audience. For groups such as Solar Tyde, CPS, Golden Notes, and Chamber Jazz, this was yet another show to add to their extensive repertoires.

Cat Eggs was the first group of the evening to perform, unveiling their metal-inspired music for the first time to the public. They began their set with their song titled “Horse Racing,” followed by “Between,” and “By Now.”

With a more alternative-rock sound, the group Veil was next to perform. They played  two original songs and a cover of The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather.” Following Veil was a solo artist by the name of Soul, who performed their own original R&B track for the first time.

The next performances came from Superbird, Lookah Dee, Golden Notes, Anthony Campbell and Declan Fields for CPS, Chamber Jazz, Yuki Unknown, Clinton Layne, and Solar Tyde. There was a wide range of genres between each artist from a capella music, to hard rock, to rap, to poetry performed by Lookah Dee.

“It was pretty cold, but overall Fall Fest was an amazing experience with great people,” said Cain Mack, frontman of Superbird. Superbird performed their song titled “Social Experiment,” followed by an untitled song showcasing their keyboard, string, and percussive skills. This event was the group’s first public performance, and they have more scheduled for the future.

“You could really tell how happy everyone is to be here performing. The support for the artists is so noticeable here,” said attendee Maddy Burnett.

Rose Record Label Group has more events coming up for this month, including Boo Bash with performances by Cat Eggs, Veil, Superbird, Naomi Onyx, Skyler Stabin, and Solar Tyde. The event will be held on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in Studio G3 in the Hearst building. Students are encouraged to come in costume for a chance to win prizes at the show.

The Rose Record Label is open to any Saint Rose student of any major, and encourages students to get involved. For more information on upcoming Rose Record Label events and auditions, visit their website at https://www.roserecordlabel.com/
