The Student Association held their general meeting virtually over Zoom on April 15. There were no special orders for this week’s meeting.

The Student Association is continuing Project Positivity into next week with the theme for Autism awareness.

Despite the on campus event for Relay For Life being canceled, Colleges Against Cancer will be holding a virtual event instead on Sunday, April 19. There will be a  full day of events starting at 1 p.m. with the opening and survivor remarks. Fundraising will begin at 3 p.m. followed by a luminaria ceremony at 7:30 p.m. and recognition at 9:30 p.m. The link to the virtual experience will be posted on the Relay For Life of The College of Saint Rose Facebook page.

Some students had questions about an email titled “Impact of COVID-19 at Saint Rose,” sent to students on the morning of April 15, which stated 61 employees were being put on furlough. Students were curious if there was a list of these employees.

“If we are able to let the campus community know, we will let you know,” said Cherèva McClellan, director of Student Life.

Students were also concerned for the financial state of the college as the email mentioned the deficit that the college holds. McClellan mentioned that Marcia J. White, the college’s interim president, might have some plans in order to help bring the college out of the deficit.

Students asked what they could do to help the situation; McClellan encouraged students to talk up the school.

“If you’re not here, we don’t exist,” said McClellan. “Be our cheerleaders.”

McClellan said that as we are in this tough time, Saint Rose is not the only institution going through financial struggles.

As other institutions in the country are talking about not reopening for the new academic school year, one student asked McClellan what the likelihood is of Saint Rose going down that path.

“There is no definitive answer yet. I am sure The College is doing everything they can to make sure we’re on campus in the fall, but we do not know the state of the corona virus at that time and do not want to risk the safety of the students. They will send out updates,” McClellan wrote through Zoom.

As the end of the semester approaches, the Student Association e-board prepares to hire replacements for all positions for the 2020-2021 academic school year. Students have been sent an email on Thursday, April 16 in the afternoon to vote for candidates.

For write-in positions, in order for the candidate of choice to be elected, they must receive 50% of the votes and qualify for the position according to the Student Association e-board standards.

Voting for the SA Service and Appreciation Awards for Adviser of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Faculty Member of the Year, and Staff Member of the year are also live.

Voting for both end April 20th by 4:30 p.m.
