If someone you know is a little love lorn, or maybe is not excited at the thought of incessantly swiping to find love, Student Association approved performance group, the Vocal Angels are presenting a solution.

On Feb. 15 from 7 to 9:30 p.m., they will be hosting their first annual Valentine’s Speed Dating event in MidKnight Eats. Tickets are $5, or $7 at the door.
“We were inspired to do a speed dating event after partaking in one of the speed dating events last semester on UAlbany campus,” said Tiara Johnson, president of the Vocal Angels.

“I went and it was interesting to say the least.”

The evening is going to hold more than just the chance for all of the participants to interact with one another, there will also be raffles and a lot of music. The Vocal Angels have been advertising on both the College of Saint Rose and the State University at Albany campuses to try to get as many participants as possible involved for the intermediation process.

“I’m definitely looking forward to seeing everyone interact with not only Saint Rose students, but also UAlbany Students,” said Vocal Angels member Kezia Jones.

“This can help bridge the gap between the two schools.”

For the Vocal Angels, speed dating is a brand new fundraiser and campus program, but also a significant step towards strengthening their brand and reputation on campus, in addition to their performance credentials.

“I’m so excited for our club to show everyone that we’re more than just a Gospel group… that we love to have a good time like everyone else,” said Jones.
Although the event has not yet occured, the members of the Vocal Angels are looking forward to making this unique event a Saint Rose tradition.

“We definitely plan on continuing this event,” said Daphne Williams, Vocal Angels member.

“That’s why we are calling it annual. Why not continue something that isn’t already on our campus that anyone can enjoy?”

Speed dating is a decades-old matchmaking process that allows an individual to meet and interact with a high number of individuals in a short amount of time. At the end of each “date”, or conversation between a pair of participants, someone makes a signal in order to signify a rotation.

Throughout the night the goal is to meet everyone eligible in the room, as stated by Johnson.

Some of the members are interested to see how an evening of face-to-face interaction between various college students pans out.

“I believe it will be interesting to see how today’s youth is capable of communicating and getting to know each other,” said Cerrone Brown, one of the group’s members. “So much of that is done through social media and texting now.”

This unprecedented event is something that students will have to attend to truly experience, and no matter what happens for those participants that choose to come out, the Vocal Angels are ready to provide an evening of entertainment for all.

“You could come possibly find love, or just get out the dorm room and have a good time,” said Johnson. “It’s all up to you.”
