Saint Rose Network Down Sunday

A transformer which provides power to the network operation center located in Saint Joseph Hall burnt out, according to an e-mail sent by John Ellis, executive director of information technology services.

The transformer was fixed using replacement parts on Sunday, Jan. 29. However, between 6 a.m. and approximately 5 p.m. that day the entire Saint Rose network was down. This included “wired and wireless networks, the telephone system, Banner, Blackboard, E-mail, Internet access, printing” and “computer logins,” according to a reminder e-mail sent by Ellis on Jan. 27.

The burnt-out transformer was one which composed part of the uninterruptable power supply which provides power to the network operation center.

The broken transformer was found during “regular preventative maintenance,” according to the Jan. 24 e-mail.
