The “small school vibe” may have attracted Student Association President Ann Leghorn to Saint Rose, but it was the previous board that convinced her to run for President. Being an RA really helped her with skills such as time management, people skills, and public speaking, as well as her role as Secretary for two years straight on the Identity E-board. Deciding between President and Director of Special Interest Groups was hard, but in the end, she said “Go big or go home,” and ran for President.

Her inspiration for the position are her two younger brothers. Ann said, I wasn’t really involved in high school, so I wanted to show them that you can get involved and be successful later on.

Ann’s position itself entails running the SA meetings and making sure the board members keep on track. “I am basically an extra set of eyes,” she said. An important part of her job is to speak with campus officials and represent the school and the campus students in meetings.

In reference to how she feels about holding such an important position, Ann said, “It feels great!” She is having a lot of fun and “it doesn’t even feel like a job.”

One of her favorite memories of Saint Rose is being Fear the Knight at MidKnight Madness last year. “Everyone was excited…and energized.”

Ann would like to remind everyone that meetings are on Wednesdays at 4:30. Her advice to students is: “Always be aware of what is going on around you. The more you make yourself aware, the more you get involved, stay away [if necessary], and make a difference.”
