The collaboration between the Art and Communications departments will finally be unveiled in an exhibit on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Picotte Hall’s student gallery for one night only.
The collaboration includes inflatable sculptures created by 3D Concepts students, which will have video and sound, created by Multimedia Storytelling students, projected on the pieces.
The exhibit follows a city and nature theme which will be shown on the non-representational sculptures.
The sculptures, made of a thin plastic material, will be filled with air by fans and set up in the gallery.
Footage includes scenes from New York City and the Albany area, which will be projected onto the sculptures to create an unusual and interesting experience for viewers.
While students have had limited contact with each other, they have managed to work extremely well together through Blackboard.
Each student has had their part in the collaboration by working on separate teams to bring the exhibit together.
These teams include journalism, documentary, video or audio, sculptor, and those who are promoting the event. This collaboration has tested the abilities of the students in their field of expertise.
Professors Elizabeth Richards and Susan Meyer originally got the idea for the collaboration through an idea to work with each other in September 2013.
Being busy with teaching, the two decided to instead work on a piece with their students.
This is a great way for students to come together, especially for the art students, who are mainly transfers and freshman, to make some connections with older students, said Meyer, who hopes that the exhibit will bring more people down to Picotte, located in downtown Albany.
A final test run will take place on Tuesday to locate flaws in any parts of the exhibit.
