Bad Weather Turns Fallstival into “Hallstival”

A fall-theme festival hosted by a group of resident assistants (RAs) took place on Friday, Oct. 20 in the Events and Athletics Center (EAC). This fall festival, dubbed the “Fallstival,” was supposed to take place outside on the campus quad, but due to rainy weather, it was moved inside.

Due to the change of location to the EAC lounge, some of the planned activities changed. Although there was not a drunk goggle obstacle course offered, there were still lots of games and activities provided. Some of these included pumpkin bowling, apple bobbing, and a photo booth with props. There was also a mummy wrapping game where whoever wrapped their “mummy” the fastest with paper towels won.

“We tried to think of normal games, and some carnival games with a fall theme,” said Darcy Woodruff, one of the RAs on campus. In addition to the games, there was a variety of food available, like caramel apples, cider, donuts, and cupcakes. Prizes were also offered to students if they won any of the games.

“Our goal was to have a bigger turnout before the rain, but this is a nice turnout,” said RA Ramsey Tozier. Students came in and out of the main lounge to check out what was going on throughout the event, but she speculated that there would have been more students if the event had remained outside as originally planned.

“I keep seeing people go by and look like oh, they might come in,” Tozier said. Students walking by did stop in to try out some games or grab a fall treat.

“It’s great so far and there’s really good sweet treats here,” said Kaitlyn Smith, a sophomore who attended the Fallstival.

Despite the turnout being lower than the resident assistants had hoped, the students who came to the event seemed to have a fun time participating in all of the activities. The RAs also joined in on the fun, participating in games with students making the best of the gloomy weather.
