The Boo Bash, a Halloween-themed event with live performances and a costume contest, was held by the Rose Record Label Group and the Student Association on Friday, Oct. 27. The two groups in collaboration planned this fun Halloween event for the second year in a row, although the event wasn’t called by the same name last year. Lots of students came together to watch original artists from the Rose Record Label group perform, as well as dress up to possibly win the costume contest.

This year’s event was bigger than last year’s similar event, the Boo Ball. “We are going to start making this event annual…we just decided to make it bigger this year, make it more fun, expand it by collaborating with the Student Association,” said Cristina Shaul, president of Rose Record Label Group since the end of the spring 2023 semester. The music department has been getting smaller recently, but despite this decrease, there was still a nice turnout for last year’s Halloween event, motivating Shaul to expand it this year to hopefully attract a larger crowd.

“We have spent way too much time on this event…we’ve met a lot over the past month just preparing with the Student Association; we have a lot of different departments at work, we have an art department and we have a PR department as well,” said Shaul. A lot of planning and hard work was put into throwing the event, not only from the setup, but also from the performers.

The live music provided included three acts from the Rose Record Label group: Naomi Onyx, Skyler Stabin, and the band Solar Tyde, as well as two opening acts. “The two openers aren’t part of the record label, but the main acts are,” said Shaul. The performer’s sets included original songs as well as covers. Along with the live music, there was a costume contest. The first place winner was Maddie Bronson, and coming in second place was Hannah Dote. The first place prize basket contained JBL headphones and a speaker, and a Michael Jackson Thriller vinyl. “My favorite part of the event is the costume contest and doing the raffle baskets. I’ve had a lot of fun promoting that and I think that it is going to be super fun for everyone,” said Shaul.

The Rose Record Group is planning on doing this event annually now, so students, stay on the lookout next Halloween for a night of live music and prizes.
