A New Face in the Dining Hall

The College of Saint Rose had another turnover at the head chef position.
Edward Murray, who has been at the College since August of 2015, reached a mutual agreement to leave the school on April 4.
“We had some issues,” Rich Meigel, Head of Dining Services at the College said. “But it was mutual, and Aramark took good care of him.”
Murray was contacted about his departure but no response was received.
The new man in charge in the Main Dining Hall is John Tompkins, who brings more than 20 years of experience in the collegiate atmosphere with him.
Tompkins previously worked as a Golden Knight employee as the Catering manager.
“The College loves him,” Meigel said. “He knows our system, so it’ll be a good fit.”
Before coming to Saint Rose, Tompkins worked as the catering manager at Hartwick College, and was also the Head Chef there for eight years.
In addition to Hartwick, he has also been employed in dining services at Bennington College, and St. Bonaventure.
“I worked with Rich for seven years,” Tompkins said. “We did good things, now we’re back together.”
Tompkins identified employee morale as his biggest task at the College.
A system that runs smoothly with employees that enjoy what they do is the “key to a good business,” according to Tompkins.
While his previous locations added a long commute to Tompkins’ day, he noted that Saint Rose eliminates most of his travel time.
“I’ve been with Aramark for almost 21 years,” Tompkins said. “I’m excited to be home again.”
