A Field of Horrors: Saint Rose Student Events Board Kicks Off Fall Season with Hayride and Haunted Houses

This past Saturday, the Student Events Board (SEB) took a trip to the Field of Horrors in Troy, and it was a big success.

Planned by Jordyn Veihdeffer, the trip chair of SEB, the event cost only five dollars and granted students access to the hayride and each of the four haunted houses. Students met at Saint Joseph’s Hall at 6:30 p.m. and ate donuts before boarding the bus to the Field of Horrors.

The entrance was a long winding road, torches lining the path on either side to prepare us for the scares to come. The attraction was already packed for sneak peak weekend.

Splitting into two groups of 22, we were brought to the front of the lines for the hayride through the Trail of Terror, which goes “through acres and acres of mayhem and carnage,” according to the Field of Horrors website. The ride featured actors dressed as zombies, vampires, dead brides, killer hillbillies, end of the world survivors, and more.

Unable to escape from them, it made it scarier when they would jump on the side of the ride and get in our faces on the tractor. Once the hayride was over, we explored the rest of the park, walking through the four houses and sitting by the bonfires spread out around the field.

Death Trap, Toxic Terror, Return of the Mummy’s Curse, and Insanity, the four houses, had each of their own themes with long lines filled with excited and terrified people. As we waited in line for each of them, actors running outside of the houses would chase innocent victims through the field or run up to those waiting in line. We had interactions with Jack the Ripper, a girl in a straight jacket, a nun, and a girl covered in blood looking like Raggedy Ann almost squirting water from a water gun.

The Field of Horrors was a great place to start off the fall season for SEB’s trips, and all those who went enjoyed themselves. We ended the night by one of the bonfires to warm up with food we had bought. Everyone left scared and happy. It was definitely a trip worth going on, and I’m glad I was a part of the experience.
