The College of Saint Rose will show the film “A Calling” directed by Nick Viscio on Monday Oct. 1 in St. Joseph Hall at 7 p.m., for free. “A Calling” is about the placement of women in leadership roles in the Roman Catholic Church, including nuns and parishioners who are fighting for social justice. The film follows Sister Mary Lou Liptak, the parish life director of St. Lucy and St. Bernadette Church in Altamont, and her story on overcoming adversity, and becoming a woman in a position of power in the church.

Over the course of three years, Viscio has worked on this project to send a powerful message.

“The main message is that the efforts back at that time were very cultural in terms of everyone’s vision of what the Roman Catholic Church, is,” he said. “I thought it would be a good idea to blow the horn, to change the status quo, that’s where the story goes, it certainly talks about the transformation of the community, and also the transformation of individuals that participated in it to make it to be. ”

The film has been selected for the Miami Independent film festival, Woodstock, New York film festival, Charlotte film festival, Burlington, Vermont festival and the Castel Gandolfo festival in Italy.

The film is 1 hour and 16 minutes. The audience has been asked to donate items to bring to St. Vincent’s Pantry.
