Starting of with softball, the Golden Knights returned to action for the first time since Mar. 6. They were home on Thursday to take on the Le Moyne Dolphins and split the series, winning the first game 10-0 but losing the second one 6-3. History was made in game one as freshman pitcher Samantha Allen pitched a no hitter while striking out five and walking three. Senior Briana Bowen went 2-2 from the plate with three runs scored one RBI. Sophomore Ryane Brush also hit a three run homerun in the game to extend the Saint Rose lead.

They looked to ride the momentum of Allen’s no hitter into Saturday’s trip to take on the New Haven Chargers but they split the series, winning 2-0 in game one but falling 2-1 in extra innings in the second game. Allen was once again on the hill for the victory and gave up six hits but struck out six en route to a complete game shutout. Both teams were slated to have a match on Sunday but the game was postponed due to rain.

The two splits keep the team at a level .500 at 8-8 and they will return home for a Wednesday doubleheader at 3 p.m. against the American International Yellow Jackets.

Keeping it on the diamond for baseball, the team hosted Le Moyne on Wednesday for another edition of the Upstate Challenge and came away with the victory 8-1. The Golden Knights were down 1-0 in the early going but the offense came alive for them to take the lead and win. Junior Jon Montesanti contributed in a big way with a three run homerun in the fifth inning to lead the offense. On the mound, senior Stephen Hill gave up seven hits but didn’t allow an earned run.

They then traveled on Saturday to take on the Southern Connecticut State Owls and split the series, losing the first game 6-4 but took game two by a score of 7-3. Junior Andrew Pedone had three hits and and scored twice to lead the offense. Senior Greg Musk pitched six innings and struck out ten.

The team will wrap up the series on Sunday before returning home on Tuesday to take on American International at 3:30 p.m.

The men’s lacrosse team had been on a four game losing streak heading into last Wednesday’s matchup against American International. They broke the streak in emphatic fashion, winning 23-5. The Golden Knights began the game on a 12-0 run and didn’t look back from there to take the win. Senior Carter Badour continued his strong season netting four goals while having a school record six assists. His teammate, junior Jordyn Marchiano scored four goals as well.

They looked to ride the momentum into Saturday’s showdown on the road with the Pace Setters but lost 23-4. Marchiano had one goal in the loss. The team has five games left on the season and are sitting at 2-6 right now. They will return to action on Tuesday with a road trip to Vermont to take on the Saint Michael’s Purple Knights.

Sophomore Colleen Quaglia’s stellar season may be over but the awards keep coming. This past week she was named the NE-10 Women’s Swimmer of the Year. Quaglia’s 2018-19 campaign was capped off two weeks ago when she earned Honorable All-American honors at the DII NCAA Championships.

Two new school records were set by the women’s track and field team which competed in the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. Junior Valerie Hinds improved upon her school record in the hammer throw, increasing it to 48.53 meters. Freshman Shania Mohammed also set a school record in the 100 meters with a time of 12.13 seconds. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action on April 6 at the Yellow Jacket Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.

And finally this week, the men’s golf team began their spring schedule last week at the Crab to Go Invitational in Berlin, Maryland. The team overall placed 6th out of nine competing teams. The top three finishers individually were: senior Alex Gibson who finished in 13th at +10, Junior Shiyang Liu who finished who finished in 24th at +17, and junior Kyle Adams who ended up in 27th at +18. The team will return to competition on April 11-12 when they take part in the Mike Bello Invite in Syracuse.
