Men’s Basketball

On Feb.17, The Golden Knights took on Bentley University at home. Freshman Christian Pierre-Louis, racked up a high of 19 points with 14 points being recorded in the second half. Pierre-Louis also had the team high of eight rebounds. At halftime, the Golden Knights rallied back to 43-40. Saint Rose’s highest lead of the game was six-points in the second half, after Freshman Dante Weiss made a full court pass to Tristan Jefferies for a layup. Weiss led the team with 11 assists, while Jefferies scored 18 points. Running up the score, Trey Boyd III tallied 12 points and Louis Doust racked up eight points, three rebounds and two steals. The Golden Knights ended up falling to Bentley 79-75. 

On Feb. 21, Saint Rose remained at home against Adelphi University, senior Ata Turgut dished out a high 24 points on the night while scoring 17 of the points in the second half. Adelphi and Saint Rose each recorded 50 percent from the three point range in the first half. Weiss came out of the gate with a three pointer to secure a 8-0 lead in the third quarter. Weiss scored 13 points and recorded a game high of seven assists. Jefferies scored 13 points on the night while Boyd III recorded 11 points coming off the bench. Junior Nuha Sagnia led the team with nine rebounds. After a hard battle the Golden Knights fell 86-81, Turgot’s 24 points were not enough to push them to a win. 

On Feb 24, The Golden Knights hosted New Haven for their senior night. Pierre-Louis totaled  23 points on the night. Jefferies and Sagnia finished the night off with 14 points while Ata Turgut was one short with 13 points on the books. Weiss logged seven points, four rebounds and nine assists. With this being the last regular season game at home for the men, both Ata Turgut and Nuha Sagnia were honored as the last two men’s basketball seniors at the College of Saint Rose. To celebrate the seniors, the Golden Knights left Nolan P Gymnasium with a win 83-70. 

Women’s Basketball

On Feb 13, The women’s team hosted Bentley University at home. Sophomore Aniya McDonald-Perry finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds to record her third double-double in her last five games. McDonald-Perry was matched by junior Syrita Faraj, who scored 13 points. Catherine Finnerty and Maddisyn Mahoney recorded 6 points each while Kaelah Carter and Payton Graber recorded 4 points on the night. Throughout the third and fourth quarters, Bentley would continue to lead by double figures. The Falcons defeated the Golden Knights, handing Saint Rose their first home loss of the season 65-46. 

On Feb 21, Saint Rose was back at home against Adelphi University. With nineteen points, Faraj topped the Golden Knights. Faraj also added two assists and six rebounds. Mahoney ended with twelve points, while Graber with thirteen. Mahoney pulled down five rebounds, while Graber pulled down four. Each of the two recorded two steals. McDonald-Perry led the Golden Knights to a 42-25 lead against the Panthers on the glass with nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The Golden Knights sealed the win 58-48 in their second game at home in a row. 

On Feb 24, Senior night was hosted against New Haven University. Graber and Faraj led the Golden Knights in offensive scoring with 16 points apiece. Carter scored eight points and Mahoney scored nine to aid Saint Rose. Carter contributed three assists, while Mahoney led Saint Rose with four. McDonald-Perry grabbed eight rebounds recording a team-high, and tallied two steals. Carter, Mahoney, and McDonald-Perry each got two steals. The Saint Rose advantage reached 16 points at the beginning of the third quarter, the most lead the Golden Knights would have all day. In three of the four quarters that Saint Rose played today, they brought on 14 turnovers and held the Chargers to less than 35 percent shooting from the field. Congratulations to all 4 seniors, Ryley Blasetti, Daja Wentz, Kaileigh Hunt and Catherine Finnerty on all of their accomplishments on and off the court at the College of Saint Rose. 

Men’s Lacrosse

To start off the men’s lacrosse season, the Golden Knights traveled to Mercy College. Sophomore Noah Gibson chalked up two goals and senior Jack Rice also recorded two goals on the night. 4 players each recorded one goal a piece; Paul Wright, Eddie Baker, Cam Smith and Alex Johanson. Additionally listed as players with assists were Spikereit, Baker, David Goll, Greg Walsh, and Aiden Blouin. The Golden Knights fell 20-9 even with eight caused turnovers. 

The men’s lacrosse team hosted Bridgeport University on Feb 18. Smith scored six goals in the afternoon to lead Saint Rose; he scored his first three goals in the first quarter. Smith exceeded the 100-goal mark while wearing a Saint Rose jersey. Saint Rose led 9–5 in the second half. The Golden Knights’ goalies, Dom Zichelli and Ryan Gainor, each made two saves.

Gibson not only provided two assists but also added a hat trick for Saint Rose. For the Golden Knights, Walsh contributed two goals and a game-high three assists. Johanson scored two goals in the fourth quarter and added an assist on a goal by defenseman Michael Castelli to make it his second straight game with a goal. Five different Golden Knights—Spikereit, Rice, West Cateaux, Brady Frys, and Mike Mrzyglod—finished the game with a goal and an assist apiece. To score their 21 goals, Saint Rose utilized 11 different goal scorers. Over the last 31 minutes, they went on a 12-0 run to end the game 21-5. 

On Feb 25, Saint Rose hosted Post University at home. Smith recorded six goals while Rice scored three and Gibson scored twice. Gibson also recorded a game high of three assists. While Mike Mrzyglod and Aiden Blouin scored goals on their own, Baker, Spikereit, and Johanson each scored multiple points. The Golden Knights had a 47-24 edge against Post in loose ball pickups thanks to Eoghan Sweeney’s 24-for-34 performance at the face-off area and his game-high 17 ground balls.

The Golden Knight’s men’s team hosts Chestnut Hill at home on Mar 2 for their next game. 

Women’s Lacrosse

The Women’s lacrosse team began their season at home against Felician University on Feb 21. The Golden Knights were on fire setting the program record for most goals in a single game. Junior Katy McPeak scored eight goals also recording the most goals scored in a game by a Golden Knight. Junior Lauren Pendergast made the record book with 10 points being three goals and seven assists being the highest total of points in Saint Rose women’s lacrosse history. Senior Daria Bock and Sophomore Grace Gardner each chalked up five goals to push past Felician while also scoring alone for the Golden Knights were freshman Kylee Payne and sophomores Emilie Robbie and Carly Neville. Their next matchup is at home against Molloy College on March 2. 

Baseball

The Golden Knights traveled to North Carolina, They competed in 2 double headers against Mercy College and Goldey-Beacom, splitting the four games 2-2. In their season opener, The baseball team defeated Mercy 8-7 in 10 innings. Senior Thomas Mark assisted their first win by delivering 4 scoreless innings. In their first game, Saint Rose forced extra innings thanks to solo home runs by Nathan Toms in the eighth and Mike Bennedetto’s three-run blast in the ninth.

James Ward drove in junior Kenyon Motley with a game-winning single in the 10th inning to complete off the Golden Knights’ five-run rally. In the Golden Knights second game against Mercy, Mike Weed struck out six batters to help Saint Rose defeat Mercy 15–8. Weed gave up just three earned runs on three hits while striking out five. Mike Gage got a save stretching multiple innings, assisting the Golden Knights in escaping a seventh-inning jam and preventing the Mavericks from scoring during the last nine outs.

The Golden Knights are staying in North Carolina and will play four more games over the span of three days- March 1-3.
