Saint Rose’s annual Dodgeball Madness event was held last Tuesday in the Nolan Gymnasium and all ten teams were ready to compete to become the next champion. The Madness was set up bracketstyle, single elimination, so the teams only had one chance each to get to the finals.
The first game to take place was the Lucky Charms against the Ancient Hawaiians. The Ancient Hawaiians had to mount a comeback to take the first game of the tournament.
The next game pitted the Gym Class Heroes, made up of staff members from the College, against the Mighty Dodgers. The Mighty Dodgers would outlast the staff members.
Money Team took the next game after Starting 11 was disqualified due to an outburst from one of their players, who was called out by a referee.
The next game pitted Team CEP against the Slumdodge Millionaires, and Slumdodge Millionaires took the game.
After that, We’re The Millers took on Team BGZ, leaving BGZ as the next team to punch their ticket to the second round. Then, Team TBD was the next team to win, beating the Honey Badgers.
Round two saw the defending champions, Patches O’Hooligans, taken down by the Ancient Hawaiians in a surprising upset.
“I thought the tournament had a great atmosphere,” said Jonas Miller, a sophomore, who was participating in the event for the second year in a row.
“Obviously it would have been more fun if we hadn’t lost, but overall it was a good experience.”
The next game involved a raffle drawing of teams that had lost to bring one back for another game.
The Gym Class Heroes won the drawing and eventually lost to the Slumdodge Millionaires.
The Mighty Dodgers moved into the semi-finals by taking down Money Team. Team TBD joined the fun in the semis by knocking out Team GBZ.
In the semi-finals, the Mighty Dodgers defeated the Ancient Hawaiians, and the Slumdodge Millionaires went to overtime against Team TBD, where a member of Slumdodge caught a ball thrown by Team TBD off the back wall.
The final game was a showdown between the Slumdodge Millionaires and Mighty Dodgers. Slumdodge Millionaires took the championship by beating the Dodgers in a game that went back and forth until the end.
“I never seriously played dodgeball, so honestly just the whole idea was pretty new to me. Being my first experience, it was amazing,” said Gabriel Pierre, who was a part of the championship-winning Slumdodge Millionaires.
The next SEB-sponsored events will be Apollo Night on Monday, April 13, and Line Dancing on Tuesday, April 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Saint Joseph’s Auditorium.
