Saint Rose Women Fall to Adelphi

The College of Saint Rose failed to score a goal in their 1-0 loss to Adelphi. Jeannine Nunez scored the game’s only goal 65 minutes into the match, which facilitated the Panthers’ victory.
Nunez was in front of the net alone as she kicked the ball off the post and past Saint Rose’s goalie. That marked the senior’s seventh goal of the season. The assist came from a well-placed cross from Taylor Sipos.
Saint Rose had many chances as well; the most notable effort came from freshman Nina Predanic, aimed for the top corner, and only missed by a couple inches as the ball ricocheted off the post. This would have given the Golden Knights the lead 25 minutes into the game.
The rematch of last year’s conference final was an even tilt as both teams had good occasions to score. Ultimately, the goal from Nunez would prove to be the game-winner.
As soon as the Golden Knights conceded the goal, they started to go on the offence. Once the ball was placed back in the middle of the field to restart the game, you could tell Saint Rose was in it to win it.
They pushed back hard, and never gave up; they had several good opportunities to score late in the second half. Albeit their best efforts, they could not put the ball passed Adelphi’s goalie, Anne Marie Ulliac, who ended the game with a clean sheet.
Madison Taylor had seven saves in the contest against the Panthers, and made spectacular stops throughout the match to keep her team in the game. Despite the loss, the sophomore goaltender was very proud of how her team played.
“Everybody played their hearts out,” said Taylor. She also noted that anybody could have won this tight game.
Freshman Fiona Donohue, in her second game for the Golden Knights, led the team with two shots on goal. Sophia Constantine started her second game this season and had the only other shot on net for the Golden Knights.
“We played as hard as we could,” said Barris, clearly disappointed with the results of the match.
Freshman Eva Frazzoni described the game as a “battle” that could have gone either way. She was proud of the team’s effort throughout the match, as they never gave up even after going down by one. However, they said that they were putting the game behind them and were already thinking about their next game.
The Golden Knights put this loss behind them, winning their match against Bentley last Saturday 1-0.
Adelphi is on top of the conference standings as their record improves to 10-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play.
With this loss, Saint Rose is standing eighth in the North Eastern Ten conference with a conference record of 5-5 and overall record 8-5.
