Saint Rose men’s soccer defeated rival Saint Anselm 2-1 in double overtime Saturday for their fi rst win of the season. Fans were treated to extra time as the game stretched to double-overtime, the deciding goal coming off the foot of senior midfielder David Haston, assisted by sophomore Shane Fuller and freshman Oskar Aastroem.
Haston gained possession of a redirected cross from Aastroem only 23 seconds into the second overtime.
Throughout the match Saint Anselm held a 14-13 shot edge over Saint Rose but a 3-3 corner differential.
Saint Rose fell behind early around the 25:42 mark. Saint Anselm’s Jack Heintzelman scored from just outside the box.
However the Golden Knights answered later, 72:13, off the foot of senior midfielder Elidon Bardhollari assisted by freshman Aaron Muia on a crossed ball that forced overtime.
Goalie sophomore Giannin Carillo saved four shots on goal for Saint Rose. Saint Anselm’s goalie Meirelles Neto matched the same shot total.
