The College of Saint Rose Mens Basketball team took home its eighth Northeast 10 division win Wednesday as they defeated Upstate Challenge Rival Le Moyne Dolphins 79 – 66.

Saint Rose sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd lead all scorers with 23 points while adding 8 rebounds to his resume, as he seemed to be unstoppable in the late comings of the second half.

My shots starting to feel a little bit better and I’ve been a little bit stagnant, said Boyd, so its just coming together.

The Golden Knights went on a 12 – 0 run from the 8:53 to 5:07 mark in the second where Boyd scored 7 of the teams 12 points.

What I thought was that he did a better job on the defensive end, said head coach Brian Beaury, He did a terrific job on one of the best guards in the league, Tanner Hyland, so he had a great game offensively but had a better game defensively.

Le Moyne stopped the Golden Knights run and add one of their own, going on a 7 – 0 run to close the margin to 6 points with 4:14 left in the second half. Saint Rose kept the tempo in the final 4 min as they held Le Moyne to only 7 more points and a glaring differential in second half total points as it favored Saint Rose by 18.

These teams we play are good, so we know their going to make some runs, said junior forward Tyler Sayer, we just have to limit them and keep them short and we did; we made our runs back and we pulled it out.

Le Moynes top scorer was guard Qwadere Lovell who went 6 – 13 from the field for 14 points while Anthony Richards for the Dolphins drained 3 of 5 from deep.

We were more focused on not giving up 3 point shots, said Beaury, They were 2 – 13 from 3 point range in the 2nd half which I thought was a big factor for us.

Holding off the Dolphins three point shot in the second was the key in the win for the Golden Knights after the Dolphins were successful on 5 threes in the first. Saint Rose overcame the small 5 point deficit in the start of the second half quickly using their strong defense to make stops and fluidity on the offensive end to pull away.

We tell our guys all the time, said Beaury, you dont need to lead a game for 40 min to win a game.

Saint Rose next game will be away vs The New Haven Chargers Saturday Feb. 6th at 3:30 p.m.
