Men’s Basketball Off to Hot Start

This past weekend, the College of Saint Rose hosted the Northeast–10 Challenge. The teams participating included Saint Rose, Molloy, Concordia and Le Moyne. Each team played two games, Saint Rose and Le Moyne both going 2–0. Concordia and Molloy both went 0–2. The Golden Knights get their chance at the Le Moyne Dolphins on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Golden Knights played a close game against Molloy College. In the first half, neither team led by more than five points until 12 minutes into the contest. Shane Herrity nailed a three-pointer to break that barrier. Anthony Russell would then add two three-pointers to keep Saint Rose in the lead. With two minutes left, Molloy would go on a 6–0 run and bring down the

Saint Rose lead to three points, 34–31, to end the first half.

Early on in the second half, the Golden Knights would find their way to a ten-point advantage, going on their own 8–0 run. Damon Coleman found two open layups and Julian Lipinski added a layup and two free throws of his own. Saint Rose would maintain much of the control through the half, working their way to a 12-point lead, with three minutes to go.

Mical-Ryan Boyd led the charge, capping off Saturday with 17 points, including 3 three-pointers. Anthony Russell added 11 points, also with 3 three point field goals. Tyler Sayre, Damon Coleman and Julian Lipinski all contributed with ten points each.

Sunday was a bit of a different story. The Golden Knights dominated the first half of the game, leaving for halftime by a score of 54–27. The game began with a 16–3 run, led by senior forward, Tyler Sayre’s eight points in the five-minute span. Saint Rose ended the half with another 14–2 run, capping off a 27-point advantage.

The second half was nowhere near as dominating. About ten minutes into the second half, Saint Rose reached their highest lead of the night, 36 points. However, from that point on, Concordia would manage a couple runs of their own, and was more of a back and forth matchup for the rest of the evening.

This time Lipinski led the way with a total of 22 points, while racking up three seals on the defensive side. Boyd had another strong game totaling 17 points, going 3–5 from three-point range, and contributing five assists. Jack Jones added ten points and Chris Dorgler tacked on six points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

The Golden Knights (2–0) play their next home game on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3:30 p.m. against the New Haven Chargers (1–1). They will go to American International on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m., which fans can follow online.
