Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I came to St. Rose on March 25 with a few other Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to participate in your “March is Social Justice Month.” What a joy it was to be back at my alma mater and experience the vibrant spirit of CSR today! The founding Sisters of St. Joseph must be so happy to see your enthusiasm and commitment almost 100 years after they began this institution in one small house.
We came to share with you our concern for the hungry of our nation, especially children. We believe we can end hunger if we get our priorities right. We believe that government has a duty to ensure people’s right to food. We asked students to sign letters to President Obama, Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand, urging them to protect child-nutrition programs from budget cuts. Students and staff members were courteous and responsive as we stopped them in the corridor, explained our concern and invited them to sign three different letters.
It was obvious they were on their way somewhere, but they were respectful of our interruption and open to our invitation. We left with many letters to forward to our elected leaders and with the conviction that this college community is making our world better.
Congratulations to all those who were responsible for Social Justice Month! Hopefully the Sisters of St. Joseph and the College of St. Rose Community will continue to collaborate on justice endeavors in the future.

Sincerely,

Sister Doreen Glynn, CSJ
