On March 3, Student Association held their weekly general meeting over Zoom. The week’s special order was Matthew Woods, associate director of Student Development, who spoke about the Academic Success Center located on the second floor of Saint Joseph’s Hall near the Career Center.

The Academic Success Center still offers its usual tutoring services but students must schedule an appointment first through the Navigate app. Woods reminded students that study clusters are available for a variety of subjects, but if any aren’t available that a student would like to see, they must fill out an online form. He also brought up that if a student needs tutoring for a class, to reach out to the Academic Success Center and an anonymous request will be sent to that professor.

As Woods is known primarily for doing the Math Placement Test, he reminded students that if they want to change their Math Placement score for any classes they want to take, they can seek help with him to raise it.

Woods also reminded students of the services that The Writing Center offers such as helping students with any part of one’s writing process of a paper, from the very beginning to the final edits.

Cherèva McClellan, director of student life and coordinator of family relations, invited attendees to give their feedback through a series of questions about their feelings towards the college as she is a part of the Committee for Persistence, Retention and Graduation Working group.

On March 10, Student Association held their weekly general meeting over Zoom and instead of a special order, the board put together a Kahoot game that asked questions in relation to campus life at The College of Saint Rose. This week, guest speaker, Glesidy Eve, a student at the college, created her own platform via Instagram called “Que Viva La Revolución” (which means “living in a revolution” in Spanish). Eve began this in June 2020 with the intent to give people of color a narrative and give them a safe space for them to express themselves through any form of art.

“[I want] to uplift and empower people in these hard times,” said Eve.

This opportunity is open to everyone, and if anyone is interested in collaborating they can contact Eve through her email at eveg411@strose.edu or through Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/que_viva_la_revolucion/.

The Inclusion committee is in the process of talking about the necessity of having a translator work in the Bursar’s office. Feedback can be shared at https://forms.gle/VX5CRB5DejaYEHgk7.

An announcement was made on behalf of the Counseling Center from Alan Martell. Myles Clendenin, assistant director of Housing Operations at Residence Life, addressed the email sent out on March 5 to students in regards to the re-opening of residential hall lounges common areas.

“Students should use this link [https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d4ba8ac22aafa7-lounge] to reserve their two hour window to use the lounge in their building. A student must complete the signup to use the lounge space in their building,” reads the email from Clendenin.
