It was Senior Night for this years Upstate Challenge where the Golden Knights took on the Dolphins from LeMoyne. Unfortunately for the women’s basketball team the Dolphins came into the Nolan Gymnasium and spoiled the moment for Seniors Gabie Polce, Danielle DePierro, Mariah Lesure and Jamie Hutcheson. LeMoyne took it to the Knights shooting 52% from the floor and 15-16 from the free throw line taking the game 73-53. Mariah Lesure scored 23 points, scoring 19 at the half. Lesure also grabbed three boards blocked three shots. Senior guard Jamie Hutcheson only contributed four points but was able to pull down eight rebounds. Hutcheson was also awarded player of the game by the Saint Rose Alumni Association.

The Golden Knights took a 9-2 run into the half to close the lead from 15 to only 8, however LeMoyne came out of the gate in the second half going on 15-4 run to reassert themselves. LeMoyne was also able to take away Saint Roses’ leading scorer only allowing Lesure two shots through the half.

“It was amazing just being able to be on the court with this group of girls.” said Lesure, fighting through tears after the game. The next game for the women’s basketball team will be Wednesday at Adelphi.

The men’s basketball team does not have any seniors in this year’s campaign and have relied on the play of their freshman for most of the season. The men’s Golden Knights took a three game winning streak into the night and extended it after a 82-71 win over their in-conference rival.

“The plan was to take away Qwadere Lovell, he had 15 points but we made him work for those points because he shot 3 of 11 from the field.” said Assistant Coach James Wilson.

Freshman center Jack Jones led the Golden Knight’s with 21 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. The bench was however the difference in the game with Saint Rose scoring 31 points while holding the Dolphins to only 15 points off the bench. Jalaun Taylor was awarded the Saint Rose Alumni Association Player of The Game for his performance. Taylor scored 17 points and had 7 rebounds in 27 minutes playing off the bench.

“It’s really just coming off the bench and playing my role, coming off and being a leader.” said Taylor.

The next game for the men’s basketball team will be Wednesday when they take their four game win streak on the road to Adelphi.
