Golden Knights Rundown 9/27/22

The women’s volleyball team started off the Golden Knights fall competitions on Aug. 25. The women won 3-0 against Dominican. The women played two away games against Chestnut Hill and Southern Connecticut State on Aug. 27. The women lost both games with scores of 1-3 and 0-3. The women faced Post University at a home game on Aug. 30 and won with a score of 3-1. Jessica Vargas led the game with 11 kills. The women played on Sept. 2 against Georgian court and were victorious 3-2. The second day of the invitational, the Golden Knights won against Queens 3-1 and were defeated by Shepherd later that day 1-3. The women played Felician University home and were victorious with a score of 3-0 on Sept. 6. The women went to the Wildcat Invitational and played Jefferson, Holy Family, and Wilmington on Sept. 9 and 10. The women were defeated with scores of 0-3. The women played again on Sept. 17 against Roberts Wesleyan and won with a score of 3-1. Later that day, the women lost against Frostburg State with a score of 0-3. The women played University of New Haven on Sept. 20 and were defeated with a score of 1-3. The Golden Knights won against Pace on Sept. 24 with a score of 3-2.

The men’s soccer team played against Mercy on Aug. 25 and were defeated with a score of 1-2. This was the first game with the teams new head coach Steve Wieczorek. On Aug. 27, the men won against Caldwell with a score of 3-2. The men played Molloy and won 2-0 on Sept. 3. Seniors Josh Elliott and Nick Koenig both scored at their triumphant home game. The men defeated Bloomfield on Sept. 7 with a score of 1-0. The men’s team tied against Southern Connecticut on Sept. 10. The men defeated LeMoyne on Sept. 14 with a score of 1-0. The men were defeated by Franklin Pierce with a score of 1-2 on Sept. 17. The men lost on Sept. 20 to Saint Anselm with a score of 3-4.

The women’s soccer team faced Daemen and was victorious for their first game of the season. The women played on Aug. 27 and won with a score of 2-1. The women competed against Nyack on Aug. 31 and won with a score of 4-2. Mia Klammer, Sanna Rein and Janina Mueller scored goals throughout the game. The women won against Jefferson with a score of 1-0 on Sept. 3. The Golden Knights were triumphant again against Caldwell on Sept. 5 with a score of 4-0. The women were victorious again on Sept. 10 with a score of 3-1 against Franklin Pierce. The women tied with Saint Michael’s on Sept. 14 with a score of 0-0. Again, the Golden Knights tied on Sept. 17 against Southern Connecticut University with a score of 0-0. On Sept. 21 the women played Le Moyne and were victorious with a score of 2-1. The women won against Bentley with a score of 3-1 on Sept. 24.

The men and women’s cross country teams competed at RPI on Sept. 2 placing second at their first meet led by Nick Jones. The teams traveled to Siena invitational Sept. 10, and the women placed 13th while the men placed 14th. The men ran an 8K, and Matthew Waruch placed 78th against many Division I athletes. The women ran a 5K, and Elizabeth Mattair and Brooke Iannone finished 77th and 78th. Both teams traveled to Oneonta Airfield Invitational on Sept. 24 placing 4th overall. Matthew Waruch placed 8th in the 8K with a strong finish of 27:24.8.

The women’s golf team had their first Invitational and placed 7th on Sept. 10 through 11. The Golden Knights traveled to the Saratoga Invitational on Sept. 16 and 17. They placed 3rd overall and were led by Erika Fuentes who finished third, and Kaylie Klemme who finished 13th.

The men’s golf team placed 12th out of 16 teams at the Franklin Pierce Invitational on Sept. 18-19. Jack Manning and John Del Priore tied for 38th and 47th leading Saint Rose.
