Starting off this week with women’s soccer, the Golden Knights looked to remain unbeaten on Tuesday Sept. 24 against the Pace Setters and did just that in dramatic fashion, 1-0 in double overtime. This match featured two nationally ranked teams with Saint Rose coming in at number 12 while Pace was 24th. The entire regulation game went scoreless and with 18 seconds left in the second extra session, senior Nina Predanic buried a penalty kick to provide the difference maker for the Golden Knights.

They looked to keep that unblemished record intact on Saturday with a road game against the Bentley Falcons and took the win, 4-1. Predanic had two goals on the day, coming off her game winner from a few days earlier. Also getting on the score sheet was freshman Olivia Boucher who had two goals as well.

The team is currently at 6-0-1 and return home on Wednesday Oct. 2 for a match against the Franklin Pierce Ravens, kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The men’s soccer team began NE-10 conference play on Wednesday Sept. 25 against the Southern Connecticut State Owls and won in convincing fashion, 4-0. Saint Rose scored twice in each half on its way to victory. Freshman Hilmar Halldorsson scores two goals while junior Oskar Aastroem and sophomore Simari Smith each scored one apiece.

The team then moved ahead to Saturday’s road game with the Franklin Pierce Ravens and they were shut out, falling 2-0.

This was only the team’s second loss of the season. They are now 5-2 and will be on the road on Tuesday Oct. 1 for a matchup with the New Haven Chargers.

Heading indoors now for women’s volleyball, the Golden Knights we’re on the road last Tuesday for a match against the Assumption Greyhounds and took the victory, three sets to one (25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 24-17). This was the team’s first NE-10 conference game of 2019. Senior Stevie Schweitzer once again powered the Golden Knights with 14 kills and 21 digs to record a double-double.

The defense was also hemmed in on the night with 11 blocks.

They then returned home on Saturday to take on the New Haven Chargers for HOME.COMING and Family Weekend but could not get the win in front of the home crowd, falling three sets to one, (18-25, 25-15, 16-25, 22-25). Schweitzer recorded a second straight double-double 15 kills and 17 digs.

The team remains at .500 with a 7-7 record and will look to bounce back on Wednesday on the road against the Pace Setters.

And finally, a new school record was set a few weeks ago by freshman Erika Fuentes at the Le Moyne Invite. She shot a 77 to set a single round shot record.
