Best Postgame Interviews of All Time

By JACKSON WANG

After Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman scared the life out of Erin Andrews and the rest of America, it got me thinking of other memorable post game interviews. Athletes and coaches are full of emotion and energy after a game, so that’s when the reporter usually gets the best and worst sounds. Got to love cameras.

Here are my most memorable post game interviews:

10. Kevin Garnett- “Burn it.,” referring to Craig Sager’s suit.

I love this postgame interview for one reason-Craig Sager has the ugliest suits I’ve ever seen and it was about time someone tells it to his face. And I’m glad it was Garnett because he’s one scary person and people typically listen to him. But Sager still isn’t listening. I hope he interviews Garnett soon.

9. Kellen Winslow Jr. –“I’m a f$%#@!g. soldier.”

We all like to compare football to war hypothetically, but Kellen Winslow truly believed it was war. He thought if he didn’t hurt other players on the field, they would kill him. Maybe if Winslow actually knew what happens in a real war, he most likely wouldn’t have called himself a soldier.

8. Bart Scott- “Can’t Wait.”

This was great. Bart Scott flew into the interview like a jet and started calling out all the “nonbelievers.” But this interview had so many good quotes, “poetic justice,” “like we can stop a nose bleed,” and of course, the most famous one of all, “can’t wait.”

7. Kevin Garnett- “Anything’s possible.”

I don’t think Kevin Garnett even heard Michele Tafoya’s first question. He just wanted to get something off his chest and Garnett’s emotions truly expressed what it felt like to win a championship after so many brutal years. I wonder if Adidas was mad that Garnett butchered their famous “Impossible is Nothing” quote.

6. Mike Gundy- “I’m a man, I’m 40.”

Mike Gundy hates newspapers and thinks they’re garbage. That’s why he’s a man, and 40, well at least back in 2007. But while this rant was funny and entertaining, I have much respect for Gundy for defending his player. Plus, since that speech, he’s gone on to be one of the best coaches in college football.

5. Richard Sherman- “I’m the best cornerback in the league.”

In the words of Brick Tamland, “I don’t know what we’re yelling about.” That’s most likely what went through Erin Andrews’ mind, after her clean underwear became, well, not so clean. But at least Andrews didn’t have to look into Sherman’s eyes. I wonder whose soul Sherman was trying to touch. It had to be Tom Brady’s. You mad bro?

4. LeBron James- “I’m LeBron James, from Akron, Ohio, from the inner city.”

There were so many phrases LeBron James could have said, which includes expletives, to the people that were looking for him to fail after winning his second NBA title. But instead, he spoke humbly from his heart and showed people that he’s thankful for what he has. It’s one speech that inspires others to go out and strive for greatness.

3. Dennis Green- “The Bears are who we thought they were.”

Dennis Green thought he knew the Bears, until Chicago revealed Devin Hester. Green didn’t know Hester and was quiet upset about it. Well Mr. Green, I have some advice for you: that’s why you play four quarters of football, not three. And that’s what happens when you coach only three quarter of football, instead of four: you go coach in the UFL.

2. Shaquille O’Neal- “I don’t give a s%$t.”

Come on Shaq, you just won an NBA game and now you’re going to tell the kids at home fudge and shoot. Maybe the media should consider doing interviews a few minutes after the game is over, when the emotions are down a little bit. I wonder how the FCC felt about Shaq’s kind words.

1. Jim Mora- “Playoffs.”

I think the word “playoffs” says it all. We’ve all seen this interview at least once. It’s been on commercials, televisions shows, and ESPN for years. Good old Jimmy even jokes about it now. But in all seriousness, playoffs never worked well for Mora, who could never get passed the divisional round. Poor Jimmy, at least gets to watch Saints games now for free.
