An Egg-celent eclipse afterparty

The Egg was packed with people watching movies and dancing this past Monday, after organizing a free Eclipse after party for people of all ages in the city of Albany.

For the first time since moving here in August, I was able to attend an event at the Egg and I wasn’t disappointed.

The event was deemed to be quite popular, as there were many people who attended.

The Egg opened their doors at 4 p.m. on Monday and didn’t close them until 10 p.m.. However, I did not stay that late.

Upon arrival at the Egg, it took me a few minutes to find parking and find where I needed to go. But, the parking was convenient and close to the building. They also had directors at the doors and in the elevators of the Egg, to help us get to specific floors and areas for the event. All of the faculty was very friendly and helpful.

The first session I attended was the showing of the movie WALL-E. The movie was very good, a movie I hadn’t watched since I was a little girl. The Egg also provided popcorn during our movie, which I appreciated. Although, you did have to go down to the fourth floor in order to get the popcorn, which was a bit inconvenient. The movie was played in one of their nice theaters and I was able to hear and see the movie clearly. The seats were also quite comfortable.

On the fourth floor where you could buy popcorn was a DJ who played most of the day. People were dancing and having a lot of fun from what I saw; it was nice to see. We even saw an older lady who was busting a move on the dance floor.

After the showing of WALL-E, there were other movies that the Egg provided for its guests that revolved around the eclipse/sci-fi genre. These included A Trip to the Moon, which is only a 14-minute film made in 1902, and A Space Odyssey which was a 2 hour and 30 minute movie.

In between movies, as I stated above they had a DJ who played most of the night, they also had cool and unique projections in the lobby, and art tables.

They additionally had very talented musicians that performed in the Egg as well for live music. These musicians included Connor Armbruster, who plays the electric violin, Ami Dang who is a South Asian vocalist, and Julianna Barwick, another musician who composes her music using electronic loops.

Overall, my time at the Egg was a great experience. It got me out of my dingy dorm room and out into the city of Albany. I would highly recommend going to the Egg for an event. Everything was organized and thoroughly planned out.

Some of the Egg’s next events include Yellow Brick Joel, a tribute band to the best two piano men of our generation, Billy Joel and Elton John, and also Jimmy Carr, a comedian who has a brand new Netflix series that premiered Tuesday, April 16. You can visit the Egg’s website to buy tickets or for more information on these events.
