On Saturday Sept. 8 and Sunday Sept. 9, the 2018 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. This “special edition” of the Emmys honors artistic and technical achievement in television.

A ceremony that is held in conjunction with the Emmys, two nights had designated categories. On Sauturday the ceremony focused on scripted dramas, comedies, movies and miniseries. On Sunday however, the ceremony focused on variety, reality, and nonfiction programs.

Alongside this big moment, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice obtained membership into the “EGOT club,” a small group of entertainers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. They received this through their “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert” Emmy win.

To begin, the Governors Award was presented to Star Trek. Eighty cast and crew members accepted the prestigious award on stage, coincidentally on the same day Star Trek premiered in 1966.

As you can probably imagine, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” ruled the first night with seven wins. In fact, “Westworld” co-creator and executive producer Jonathan Nolan recognized the “Game of Thrones” domination as he grabbed his award for interactive media within a scripted program. He thanked “Game of Thrones” showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff “for wrapping up so the rest of us can win some f–ing Emmys.”

FX’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” was right behind them with four wins. FX’s “Atlanta,” Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Netflix’s “The Crown,” “USS Callister: Black Mirror,” Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and HBO’s “Westworld” each won three awards during the Saturday ceremony.

HBO’s “Last Week with John Oliver,” CNN’s “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown,” VH1’s “Ru Paul’s Drag Race,” and James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” were just a few winners from Sunday night. NBC’s famous sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” nabbed seven awards, including Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

Other winners include Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty,” Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” NBC’s “This Is Us,” Netflix’s “Wild Wild Country,” National Geographic’s “Jane,” NBC’s “Will & Grace” and Starz’s “Counterpart.”

The 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che, will be shown Sept. 17 on NBC at 8 P.M. EST/5 P.M. PST.
