Protests at Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State

On the afternoon of Jan. 8, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo held his annual State of the State address at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in downtown Albany. Multiple groups of protestors arrived at the New York State Capitol building around 12 p.m. to begin protesting outside. The protests continued throughout the afternoon in the Empire State Plaza Concourse underground. Hundreds of people protesting against various laws that Gov. Cuomo has implemented over the course of his three terms. Not pictured are dozens of state troopers to keep the crowd under control. Also not pictured are groups protesting in favor of stricter gun laws and the bail reform.

The protestors consisted of a variety of people. Environmentalists were protesting about multiple issues in relation to climate change. Fracking and PFOA in the water are big issues being talked about currently as a lot of it ends up polluting land and water./ Kayla DeMicco
The photo features people who oppose vaccinations. They were protesting against the new bill that requires parents to have their children vaccinated in order to be enrolled into school. People wearing white coats were passing out large empty pill bottles to passersby. They were calling for the price reduction of pharmaceutical drugs to reduce online drug buying. They held signs that read “Save Neighborhood Pharmacies,” “Gov. Cuomo: Protects Patient Taxpayers Pharmacies,” and “PBMs: Stop Stealing From New Yorkers.”/ Kayla DeMicco
