There is a new product out of Colorado that a lot of people haven’t heard about on the East coast. You will, though. This cool little invention is called a PopSocket, and they are growing every single day.
CEO David Barnett created the product because he wanted a way to handle his headphones. So he put two buttons on the back of his phone, and the company was born. Barnett put his company up on Kickstarter to help fund production of his creation, and now he and his company are where they are today.
There are currently only 10 employees working at PopSocket, four of whom handle all the business interactions and six who handle the production.
Now you’re probably reading this saying, OK, so why do I want one of these? Well, let me explain it from a user’s perspective.
The PopSocket is a button the size of a poker chip that goes on the back of your phone. It opens up and collapses back down to go into your pocket. Having the PopSocket on the back of your phone gives you a versatile way to hold it without having to worry about dropping it. You can use it as a stand to watch videos, and depending where you place it on your phone you can use it as a stand to text as well.
Popsocket’s adhesive allows for easy removal and it leaves no sticky residue behind when you take it off. They stick to just about any surface as well, for the exception of a couple of waterproof cases and all silicone cases.
The stickiness of your Popsocket wearing away? No worries, you just wash the adhesive with water, then you let it air dry and it becomes just as sticky as it was before. However, don’t leave it unstuck for too long or the adhesive will completely dry out!
My buddy Tyler Ettinger came home from Colorado with one of these on his phone and introduced it to me.
“I think the PopSocket is a must-have on any phone because of its unlimited uses,” Ettinger said. “I will forever have one on my phone and I recommend it to everybody who doesn’t already have one.”
Even the Wall Street Journal has seen and liked this product, calling PopSockets “the best compact smartphone support they’ve seen.”
All right, so is the PopSocket a weird concept? Maybe, but it works, and after people try it out they begin to rethink their stance.
They are well-reviewed online and the company receives emails daily praising their product. I got into contact with someone from the company, Stacey Belcher, and she sent me two emails that users had sent the company in the past week.
Both emails were complimentary towards the device and said that after using it for only a short period of time they couldn’t imagine not using the product.
“Overall, Popsockets have been growing exponentially due to their marketable manner that turns every user into a brand ambassador. We’re a young, lively team of people who are excited to see where Popsockets will go!” Belcher said.
PopSockets are a new and innovative idea, the company is fresh off the ground and it seems to be gaining momentum.
