St. Rose Suffers Losses in Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Game

The College of Saint Rose men and women’s basketball teams competed at home against Saint Anselm in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer or 2015 Pink Out game this past Saturday, with both games ending in a loss.

The event, which was presented by DC’s Pizza and Catering, raised more than $1,700 as a result of ticket sales, merchandise purchases, and donations. All proceeds benefited the fight towards cancer, more specifically Camp BraveHearts and the Albany chapter of ConKerr Cancer.

Some of the featured promotions included a free slice of pizza for the first 100 fans and a free reusable pink shopping bag for the first 250 fans. Both games featured a unique halftime show, with the Shooting Stars AAU squad playing during the women’s game and the Guilderland Dance Team performing during the men’s. Also during the men’s halftime show, a check was presented to Camp BraveHearts and ConKerr representatives.

For the first game of the double-header, the St. Rose women’s team finished with a 74-80 loss to Saint As a result, the Golden Knights now hold an overall record of 8-10.

For the third straight game this season, four St. Rose players finished the game with double-figures scoring. Season highs were set by both senior center Mariah Lesure, who recorded 24 points, and senior guard Gabie Polce who ended with 18. Lastly, senior guard Jamie Hutcheson recorded 12 points and sophomore forward Staci Barrett had 10.

The women’s team will compete next at home in another doubleheader against Bentley. The game, also known as Academic Appreciation Night, will tip off at 5:30 p.m.

For the men’s team, Saint Anselm also claimed victory by a score of 77-74. St. Rose currently holds an overall record of 5-14.

Freshman forwards Jack Jones and Jalaun Taylor led the Golden Knights in scoring, with 18 and 16 points respectively.

The men’s team will compete in the second half of the doubleheader on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., as they look to defeat Bentley.
