SEB Nightmare Trip

The Student Events Board Nightmare trip at Liberty Ridge Farm took place last Saturday.
Liberty Ridge Farm has been open for 17 years and is just like every other farm. It consists of animals, a pumpkin patch, apples, trolley rides, shows, activities, and a Cornfield Maze which seems innocent enough.
That all changes every Friday and Saturday night in October though, when the farm transforms into a night of fear and terror. During the month of October the farm becomes home to 7 attractions, Brad’s Barnyard, and the Psychic Sideshow.
At the farm, guests had many options in which they could have spent enjoying their night. You could run from the Zombies in the Field of Screams, or find your way out of the tower in Fort HuntD. Adventurous people could travel out into the Forest of Fear Path and even enter the famer’s house if they dared.
Students were able to enjoy multiple opportunities and different horrifying scenarios at this SEB event including the introduction of the new Underworld Tunnel.
Being frightened isn’t everybody’s idea of a good time but for Saint Rose student Anne Vaith if it isn’t spooky it isn’t fun.
“Hell yeah, I like haunted houses, amusement parks, and anything spooky. Oh, and popcorn,” she said as she munched on the kettle corn that she had bought at the farm.
“The three things put together were the scariest for me,” Saint Rose sophomore Julia Welch said. She had been referring to three attractions at the park that were connected. Guests would enter the framers house and over a metal bridge that seemed to move as the neon spray painted walls circled around you. From there, people continue to walk through the dirty and gory house of the farmer until they make it outside into the forest. Guests must then make their way through the haunted forest and out the undergrounds tunnel, past the man with the chainsaw. The only way to escape one entering the house? Go through all three attractions.
Erin Calamari, another sophomore at Saint Rose, found the 3D McCobb Manor attraction to be terrifying.
“The 3D house with the people blending in and jumping out at us, with the sounds was terrifying,” she said. What Calamari did enjoy was the apple cider doughnuts, she gave them a very loud “Yay!”
Zack Petker, head of SEB trips shared that he wanted this particular trip to be based on Halloween. When asked why he chose Liberty Ridge Farm he said, “I wanted something that was never done in the past.”
In planning the trip he had help from SEB president Rebecca Moyer, along with other SEB members.
Petker shared that he was proud of the turn out which included 2 buses with 87 students on them.
“Even though the corn maze was wicked scary it was actually my favorite,” Petker said.
The end result for this Student Event board trip was positive. Everyone hopped into the buses back to Saint Rose in a very happy mood.
“As scared as I was I thoroughly enjoyed it,” said Calamari.
Keep on the lookout for the next SEB trip to be announced in November.
