In Brief 10/10

Senior Interests and Murder Mystery

The Student Events Board is hosting a senior events interest meeting on Wednesday Oct.  11 at 8 p.m. in the main lounge. There will be free food and raffles – one of which will be a guaranteed paid spot on the senior cruise in May.

SEB is also partnering with Late Knight to host  a murder mystery dinner Oct. 13. Admission for the event is $5, and it will be presented by professional actors. To learn how to sign up, contact the Student Events Board.

SEB general meetings are 7:30 p.m. every Monday in Midknight Eats.

Alternative Break Service Trips

Saint Rose students have opportunities to spend their breaks travelling – to give back to communities in need. Each trip is lead by at least one student leader who has previously experienced the trip, as well as at least one staff or faculty mentor. This year trips are being offered to New Orleans, San Francisco, Washington DC, Guatemala, and a possible trip to Santa Fe. The trips all center around certain communities and students get to experience giving back to communities in a face to face manner.

The cost of the trips range upwards from $300, and students need to complete an application and an interview to be eligible for the trips.

Joan Horgan, the director of campus ministry, said that some of the trips, like New Orleans, might be questioned in light of recent natural disasters. However, many of the places need time to set up infrastructure for student volunteers so there is no risk of using up resources that residents need.

For more information on any of the service trips, reach out to Horgan, or Ken Scott, director of Community Service.
