Golden Knights Rundown

In men’s soccer, the team was home last Saturday for HOME.COMING and Family Weekend and had a match with the Assumption Greyhounds and pulled off a victory in front of the home crowd in double overtime 3-2. The win snapped the Golden Knights’ four-game losing streak. Saint Rose scored one goal in each half of regulation. The first by junior Shane Fuller and the second by junior Jaakko Teräsranta. In overtime, it was senior Paulo Sdoia who provided the game winner to cap off the night.

With four games left on the season, the Golden Knights are 7-4-1 and will be home again on Wednesday to take on the Adelphi Panthers.

Switching gears to women’s soccer, Saint Rose was on the road to take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens last Wednesday and finished in a 2-2 draw. Both of Saint Rose’s goals came within the first 20 minutes of the match. Junior Nina Predanic scored the first one and freshman Kaelyn Britt scored number two. The Ravens came back, scoring two of their own in the second half to square the match. But in overtime, neither team could find the back of the net and that’s how it ended.

They looked for a more decisive result on Saturday against the Saint Anselm Hawks but fell 2-1. The loss snapped the team’s seven game winning streak its had going since September 15. Junior Sanja Ratkovic scored the Golden Knights’ only goal on the night.

With these results, Saint Rose is now at 9-3-2 on the season with four games left to play and they will return home today to take on Adelphi at 6 p.m.

The women’s volleyball team was on a two-game road trip last week. The first game was in Vermont against the Saint Michael’s Purple Knights which Saint Rose swept three sets to none, (25-9, 25-19, 25-21). The duo of Webber and Schweitzer continued to power the Golden Knights offense with 11 and nine kills respectively.

Game two of the trip brought them to New Hampshire to take on the Saint Anselm Hawks and they won again, this time three sets to two, (25-21, 15-25, 25-22, 27-29, 17-15). Webber once again led the attack with 13 kills and behind her was sophomore Kyla Archie with 12 kills.

The two wins puts their record for the year up to 13-8 and they will to extend their win streak to three when they return home on Friday to take on the Merrimack Warriors.

The season is now officially underway for both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. They opened up the season in Oneonta, NY at the Hartwick Relays. The men finished second out of four teams while the women finished fourth out of four teams.

Winning races on the women’s side were the 3×100 breastroke team of sophomore Cassandra Wayne, junior Gabrialla Ficano, and freshman Emily Miles who finished in 3:39.31. The other winners were in the 4×200 relay team of sophomore Colleen Quaglia, sophomore Olivia Stebbins-Hopkins, Ficano, and Miles who finished the race with a time of 9:17.96.

The men’s team also won two races on the day. First, the 4×100 relay which consisted of senior Trevor Attile, senior Carl Nico Laborera, junior Roko Jelavic, and junior Charles Nicholas who finished in 3:38.97. The other winners were the 3×100 butterfly team of senior Piotr Czajkowski, freshman Matt Ortlund, and Nicholas which finished with a time of 2:43.29.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when they go back to Oneonta for the Hartwick Quad Meet.

Finally in men’s and women’s cross country, the teams were competing on Friday in the UAlbany Invitational. For the men, junior Nicholas Lee led all Saint Rose runners on the day, finishing in 24th in the 8K with a time of 27:25.2, behind him was junior Evan Ireland in 25th with a time of 27:29.5. On the women’s side with the 5K, junior Shannen Kerin led the team finishing in 21st with a time of 19:44.1 .

The teams will be back in action on Saturday at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup in Rindge, New Hampshire.
