The past decade has given us the opportunity to witness thousands of outstanding films. Movies such as “Interstellar” and “Inception” are only the beginning of jaw dropping films we were able to see for ourselves. Many popular books were able to have their moments of fame when turned into amazing adaptations such as Stephen King’s “IT” and “The Dark Tower,” Rick Yancey’s “5th Wave” and Suzanne Collins series “The Hunger Games.” These were examples of only a small portion of films that distributed large impacts on their audiences. In 2020, more extraordinary films will be written, directed, and put into theaters for audiences to thoroughly enjoy.

By the looks of what films are works in progress at the moment, it can be predicted that 2020 will be the year where filmmakers are continuing previous series, creating second parts for those that were single films, and bringing back old favorites for the horror audience across the globe. We can expect a return of “James Bond,” “A Quiet Place: Part 2,” “Venom 2,” “Halloween Kills,” “The Conjuring 3,” and “SlenderMan: Origins.”

But the truth about the future of film is that many of those who are a part of the film industry, and those who are simply audience, are afraid of what the future brings for movies. They are afraid that there will be a decline in popular blockbuster films, which is an understandable fear. They are afraid of change, afraid that directors and screenwriters are no longer taking the necessary risks that is needed in order to make outstanding movies that people will love dearly.

Though this is a recurring thought for them, it is important to understand that simply bad films should not determine the outcome of all future films to come. It is easy for us to generalize all movies as “mediocre” and “poorly written,” but in reality, the films with those obscure titles are only approximately less than half of one percent.

This continuation of negativity against upcoming films is what will be the demise of the future of the film industry.

If wealthy filmmakers are afraid of the future for film, they should consider ways to make films appeal to audiences more. A perfect step in ensuring that is to educate young screenwriters and young directors. Well praised directors like Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and many others can share tips on how to better create masterpieces that last for decades. This simple act of inspiration is what young and upcoming creators in the film industry needs in order to better their work and gain more confidence in developing their own personal style.

Films are what brings audiences together to share moments of joy, wonder, thrill, horror and adventure. The future for films in 2020 will be a remarkable one. We have the potential as well as the technology to create outstanding movies that will be remembered for decades. By supporting and inspiring the creators instead of questioning whether or not their creations will be good enough, will we only progress throughout the year and make films that we can remember forever.
