The Break Down: Bumble is a fairly new application that was launched at the end of last year. The idea behind Bumble is pretty identical to that of Tinder except with one big change. In the Bumble world the women hold the power and have to make the first move. The profiles on Bumble are set up almost the same as Tinder. They allow users to pick multiple pictures to show to potential dates, write a brief bio, and set age preferences. What is different is that the application also puts a focus on user professions and their education. This may be the developer’s attempt to appeal more to women and put the focus on accomplishments rather than superficial attractions.
How it Works: Unlike in Tinder, if two users like each other’s profiles and are matched the guys cannot act first. Instead they must wait to see if they get a message in their inbox. The only power play that the men have while using the application is to extend a match by 24 hours. This is important because matches will disappear after 24 hours if the girl does not make the first move. By putting an expiration date on matches Bumble forces women to make a call on whether or not to message their matches fairly quickly.
Pro to Downloading: Bumble is attempting to find a new way to reinvent the dating scene in this digital world. The application offers a new way to find people around you while weeding out unwanted attention from “creepers.” Also “Bumble” is a really cool and fun word to say.
Con to Downloading: Since the application is new there are not that many users to populate matches. The application also does not allow users to set distance parameters meaning it serves users potential suitors that could be miles and miles away.
Be Smart: Like with any online dating site or Tinder like application it is important to be smart. When meeting someone for the first time pick a public space and just think about what you divulge before you truly know someone.
