Baseball: 

On March 1st and 2nd, Saint Rose baseball tied the day at 1-1 against Chestnut Hill University in North Carolina to start their season off. The Golden Knights had defeated the Griffins 6-0 and then fell in defeat 12-3. Junior Chase Tucker pitched a total of 10 strikeouts while giving up one hit throughout 7 innings. Six hits came from Kenyon Motley, James Ward and Nate Toms in the first game. Ward recorded a double, a triple and scored twice while Toms provided a run-scoring double and a solo homerun. Junior Vince Venditti also recorded a solo homerun in the first game. In the second game, Venditti and Louis Gendron got 2 hits each with Grendron also recording an RBI. 

On March 3, The Golden Knights were swept by West Virginia Wesleyan in their first double header of the season. Junior Nate Fowler went 3-for-4 while Toms recorded two runs for Saint Rose. Motley and Gendron each recorded 1 RBI as well. The Golden Knights fell 12-4 but came back in the second game. Saint Rose was down 4-2 in the 9th inning before a sacrifice fly by Motley allowed Fowler to score and bring the score down to a one run game. Mike Benedetto and Ward both recorded two hits in the second game.

On March 5, The Golden Knights defeated Francis Marion 8-6. Designated hitter Gendron had led the team 3-for-3 at the plate and also was walked, allowing him to get on base throughout all of his at bats. Ward, Benedetto and Ethan Farina all had multiple hits on the day. Motley and Foglia recorded two RBI’s each to help secure the Golden Knights win. 

Throughout March 8-10, the Saint Rose baseball team finished 2-2. After losing to Adelphi 12-4, the Golden Knights bounced back and defeated D’Youville 12-6. The Golden Knights had split the double header against D’Youville. James Ward led the team with a .444 batting average, with five RBIs across 4 games, Ward also recorded a .625 on base percentage. Toms went 5-15 while driving in 4 runs over 4 games including 2 hits against D’Youville. Venditti, Gendron, Flower and Jack Griffin were all credited with RBIs, while Tyler Kneller recorded 8 strikeouts in 5 innings. 

On March 16, The Golden Knights walked off against American International College in the doubleheader of their 3-game set against AIC. Toms recorded the game winning single to send Venditti home to secure the win. Venditti recorded 4 hits, 2 of which were doubles and 2 RBI’s. In the second game of the day, AJ Fasolino managed a single through the infield, sending Jack Griffin in to finish off with a 10-9 win. 

In their last game of 3 against AIC, 6 different Golden Knights had recorded multiple hits throughout. After 3 innings, the Golden Knights led 4-0, but AIC would steadily chip away at the lead, bringing their deficit to 4-3 entering the final inning.

Before the Golden Knights scored 5 runs in the 8th and 9th innings to secure the victory, Gendron increased Saint Rose’s advantage to 5-3 in the 7th inning. The 2 hits came from Farina, who scored a run in the 7th and a 2-run, bases-loaded single in the 9th. In 6 innings, Kneller struck out 6 batters, and Stephen Orlando finished the game to record a 3-inning save.

Softball:

The women’s softball team defeated Winona State after making a 7th inning comeback. With the bases loaded, Hannah Smith was walked, starting the Golden Knights run. Ciana Phillips tied up the game 4-4 after hitting a double that cleared the bases. Madison Chandler also recorded a double which cleared the bases allowing Saint Rose to secure the win. The Golden Knights faced a 8-1 deficit against California University of Pennsylvania as the game was called in the 5th inning due to inclement weather. 

On March 7, The Golden Knights lost in their morning game against Upper Iowa. In their second game, Kelsey Higgins recorded the only runs as she hit a 2-run home run in the 7th inning. In the first 6 games of the Golden Knights’ season, Higgins has hit a team-high3 home runs, tying her for the second-most in the Northeast-10 Conference. Regardless of Higgins efforts the Golden Knights fell to Grand Valley 9-0 in their second game of the day. 

On March 8, the Golden Knights wrapped up their Florida trip. After being down 1-0 in the 6th inning, Allie Deeter and Higgins each recorded a hit allowing them to score. With the bases loaded, Higgins singled to drive in Cianna Phillips, and Saint Rose took a 2-1 lead when Deeter sacrificed Madison Chandler with a pinch-hit fly. Madison Puppolo  gave the Golden Knights a big boost in game 2 by dominating the mound. Puppolo pitched 7 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 5 and giving up only 2 hits. In the game’s last at-bat, Phillips, Higgins, and sophomore infielder Maddy Bland each scored 2 runs, while Deeter and Ellen Fuda each contributed one RBI. Saint Rose walked away with an 8-0 win over Salem University. 

On March 15, softball returned north to face off against Goldey-Beacom. The Golden Knights lost the first game of the day 5-0 before losing the second game 14-11. In the second game, the Saint Rose bats battled back to score 11 runs and 12 hits. At least 2 RBIs were recorded by 4 different Golden Knights in the game’s conclusion, with Higgins leading the team with a 2-for-3 performance that featured a 3-run home run in the 6th inning. Fuda and Ella Leduc both ended 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored, while Bland drove in 2 runs as part of a 3-for-3 effort. Along with 2 hits, Phillips scored a team-high 3 runs.

On March 16, The Golden Knights swept Lincoln University in their on the road doubleheader. Phillips and Marin Frazee recorded 3 hits to give Saint Rose a lead 9-1. In the opening game, Deeter scored 4 runs, 3 of which came from a home run she hit to center field in the 3rd inning. Saint Rose’s Emma Schaub also scored a run. Chandler, Deeter, Higgins, and Phillips each scored 2 runs.Puppolo pitched 7 innings of 1-run ball to clinch the victory in game 1. Puppolo gave up just 4 hits while striking out 5. In the 2nd inning, Phillips hit a long double, and Leduc also had 2 hits and 2 runs batted in. Higgins and Correra each had 1 RBI, while Bland and Alexcia Koonz both scored 2 runs. After giving up only 1 hit in 3 innings of relief in game 2, Deeter was given the win on the mound.. 

Men’s Lacrosse: 

The College of Saint Rose secured its 3d consecutive victory at home, triumphing over Chestnut Hill with a final score of 11-8 on Sullivan Field on DATE. Leading the charge for the Golden Knights’ offense was freshman attack Alex Johanson, who notched an impressive 4 goals. Graduate attack Cam Smith also made significant contributions with 3 goals, extending his streak of hat tricks to 3 consecutive games. Additional solo scores came from Noah Gibson, Eoghan Sweeney, and Aiden Blouin, while Smith, Blouin, and Luke Pemrick each provided assists. Despite Chestnut Hill taking an early lead with 5 of the first 7 goals, Saint Rose rallied back after an own goal from the Griffins, sparking a streak of 5 consecutive scores. This surge propelled the Golden Knights to a 7-5 lead by the end of the 3rd quarter. In the final 15 minutes, Johanson added 2 more goals to secure the victory. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Gainor played a crucial role in defense, making 7 saves to clinch the win for the Golden Knights. The Golden Knights lost 16-13 against Roberts Wesleyan. Noah Gibson and Cam Smith scored 4 times, while Aiden Blouin got 2 goals for Saint Rose. Greg Walsh scored once and assisted 3 times, and Jack Rice assisted twice. Saint Rose started strong, scoring the 1st 3 goals and 6 of the 1st 9. But then, Roberts Wesleyan took control with an 8-0 run, leading 11-6. Saint Rose tried to catch up in the 4th quarter, narrowing the gap to 2 goals 3 times, but Roberts Wesleyan stayed ahead. 

On March 9, The Saint Rose men’s lacrosse team lost 14-12 to Georgian Court at home. Noah Gibson scored the most with 5 goals, while Cam Smith and Jack Rice each got 2 goals. Eddie Baker, Aiden Blouin, and Alex Johanson also scored one goal each. Saint Rose started well, leading 5-2 early on, but then Georgian Court dominated, scoring 10 of the next 13 goals, making it 12-8 in the 4rth quarter. Despite being behind by 4 goals with 14 minutes to go, the Golden Knights fought back, scoring 4 goals in a row to tie the game 12-12 with 3:20 left. But Georgian Court managed to score twice in the last 2 minutes to win.

On March 13, The Golden Knights defeated Caldwell at home 22-8. Eddie Baker scored 4 goals, leading the team, while Gibson, Smith, and Rice each scored 3 goals for the Golden Knights. Mike Mrzyglod and Elijah Martin contributed with 2 goals each, and Dom West, Andre Guccia, Jackson Spikereit, Danny Bezrutchenko, and Eoghan Sweeney each scored 1 goal. Johanson led the team with 4 assists, followed by Smith with 3 assists, assisting in a total of 6 goals. Gibson and Greg Walsh provided 2 assists each. Additionally, Baker, Rice, Mrzyglod, Sweeney, Addison Willis, and Luke Pemrick each contributed with 1 assist.

On March 16, The Golden Knights traveled to Pace University. The College of Saint Rose men’s lacrosse team started Northeast-10 Conference play on March 16th with a tough 20-8 defeat against the nationally-ranked #11 team, Pace. Gibson led Saint Rose’s offense with 3 goals. Graduate attack Cam Smith contributed two goals, while Eddie Baker, Jack Rice, and Greg Walsh each added 1 goal. Smith and Rice also provided assists. The game began evenly, with both teams tied 4-4 after the 1st quarter, but Pace surged ahead, scoring 16 of the next 18 goals to secure the win.

Women’s Lacrosse

On March 2, The College of Saint Rose women’s lacrosse team faced a challenging non-conference match against Molloy on March 2nd, ultimately falling short with an 11-9 loss on Sullivan Field. Senior midfielder Daria Bock and sophomore attacker Grace Gardener led the scoring for the Golden Knights, each netting three goals. Junior midfielder Katy McPeak contributed two goals, while freshman attacker Kylee Payne added one. Bock and junior attacker Lauren Pendergast provided assists for Saint Rose, with Bock also showcasing defensive prowess with four caused turnovers. Despite trailing by four at halftime, with Molloy outscoring them 5-2 in the second period, Saint Rose rallied in the third quarter with two goals to narrow the gap. A strong start to the fourth quarter, with a 3-1 run, leveled the score at 9-9 with 6:33 remaining. However, Molloy seized control in the final moments, scoring the last two goals of the game to secure the non-conference victory.

On March 14, the women’s lacrosse team suffered an 18-10 defeat against Roberts Wesleyan in non-conference play on March 14th at Sullivan Field. Junior midfielder Katy McPeak led Saint Rose with four goals, while senior midfielder Daria Bock contributed three goals and one assist. Grace Gardener and sophomore midfielder Carly Neville also made their mark on the score sheet, with Gardener scoring twice and Neville adding one goal. Junior attacker Lauren Pengdergast played a pivotal role in the Saint Rose offense, logging six assists. Goalkeeper Dorothy Gaffney made 10 saves for the Golden Knights. Early in the first period, both teams traded two goals each before Roberts Wesleyan surged ahead with five consecutive goals, taking a 7-2 lead. However, Saint Rose mounted a comeback just before halftime, scoring five consecutive goals of their own to level the score at 7-7 going into the break. Despite the first-half rally, Roberts Wesleyan dominated the second half, scoring eight unanswered goals to start the third period, putting the game out of reach for the Golden Knights.
