Supernatural Ends after 10 Years, 15 Seasons

On Mar. 28, 2019, the three stars of CW’s “Supernatural” announced with a short, one minute video that even though CW renewed “Supernatural” for the fifteenth season, that this would be their last ever hiatus for Season 15; as the show would be ending with next season.

“Supernatural” is one of the longest drama television series to date, with fifteen seasons and over three hundred episodes. Television will finally say goodbye to it’s favorite hunting family… the Winchesters.

“Supernatural” currently has 327 aired episodes, according to deadline.com. It has been one of the longest series on the CW Network. “Supernatural,” according to the same source, hit the 300 episode mark in February 2019.

In the announcement, it should be noted that Ackles said that the show has “changed his life for good,” and he also mentioned the positive changes that it brought to Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.

Jared Padalecki posted on Twitter announcing the goodbye on Mar. 22, 2019 the following message: “Hey #SPNFamily, here’s a little message from Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and me. I’m so grateful for the family that’s been built because of the show. Excuse me while I go cry.”

The three main stars made an announcement on social media, as did the “Supernatural” Executive Producers; Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb. “Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers,” Singer and Dabb wrote in a joint statement that was released to the press.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki of “Supernatural.”

“Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime.

The support we have both from Warner Bros Television and the CW has been incredible. We’d like to give a special thanks to Jensen, Jared, and Misha for making this journey special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve.”

To viewers, it seemed like it was unexpected, as “Supernatural” just confirmed in 2019 that there will be a Season 15. The three male stars have been filming for so long. However, along with their jobs, all three stars of “Supernatural” have children and wives, and while are not moving on from each other, seem to want to leave the world of the paranormal.

According to Ackles in a video on Cosmopolitan’s website, he made it known that nobody forced him or the three costars to leave, and that this decision was a collective one. He didn’t want the show to be dragged on and told fans in the announcement video that the series deserved an ending “Worthy of the Winchesters’ story,” Ackles said, with clear tears in his eyes.

Not only are the stars well beloved by the public, but have started amazing charities, restaurants, and have done fundraising for various causes that they love. They utilize the fan base in a sense that was and will always be known as the “Supernatural Family.” Ackles reassured the fans that even though the show will be ending, the family that the stars have built with their fans will not go anywhere.

“It’s changed lives, it’s definitely changed these two guys’ lives,” Ackles stated while looking into the camera. Padalecki seemed as if he was too emotional to get through a general statement, and much like Ackles’ character in the show, Dean, had to take on the role of announcing that the show was ending. Padalecki didn’t talk much during the announcement video, but the emotions were clear on his and Collins’ face.

Jensen further explained the decision at a Comic Con in 2019. “It wasn’t an easy decision,” Ackles said.

“It was months and months, if not years, of discussion between he and I, between the rest of the cast, between the rest of the crew, between our writers, between our producers, between the studio, between the network. Nobody wanted to see the show fizzle out,” Ackles continued.

“It just seemed like the writing was kind of on the wall as to when it was happening. Everybody wants to give the show the ending that it deserves.”

  1. Several incorrect areas of information. You need to fact check!
    15 years not 10 years.
Will have 327 shows AFTER season 15 ends. Only 307 at the end of this season.
It is one of the longest drama series but best known for being THE Longest running, scripted genre series in North America.
It was a Supernatural Convention, not Comic Con, this year in Vegas that those statements were made. Supernatural have their own conventions!!

  2. 10 years, 15 seasons? Well, that’s a damn feat. Are there no editors around? 15 years, 15 seasons.
