The Jonas Brothers announced on various platforms that they were back in action on March 2, 2019 with a new single, “Sucker.” The long awaited anticipated reunion of the Jonas Brothers have been widely received well by both fans and critics. There are many who have positively received the song, and this includes myself.
Joe and Nick Jonas take over the role as lead singers with Kevin Jonas on aux guitar. The single is the first the brothers have released since “Pom Poms” in 2013. Nick’s lead voice can be heard over Joe’s harmonies with chords similar to those heard in “Burnin’ Up.” The new song is about what their signature material is about: a girl.
With the melodic guitar chords that are written over energizing drum beats and Joe and Nick’s melodic voices, it is clear that “Sucker” will be a hit all on its own and I am personally looking forward to the Jonas Brothers reunion that is set for this year.
“Sucker” seems to be an attempt to release a single that was meant for the club dance remix. It has an ability to get you off your chair and to get you to dance, and it is successful after the first chorus. Especially with the guitar lines and the melodic captivating voices of Nick and Joe Jonas are a combination that cannot be beat. It reminds my 12-year-old self, and of the reason why I was such a huge fan growing up.
However, it is easy to admit that their new style of music does in fact take some getting used. It is not the same old, traditional pop with a charming melody that JoBro fans are used to. That is because it has been more than 10 years since the release of their first album, “It’s About Time,” so it’s only natural that after 10 years, their signature sound would, in fact, change.
Overall, their song feels like a more grown-up version of a love song, especially with the fast paced beats of the song drawing the audience in to feel like there is a required need to dance and have a good time. While not a ballad, The song itself is reminiscent of a romantic love song for one’s partner, and it shows the feelings between a person and their future partner.
The song itself is a grown up version of their pop like hits, reminding fans of what there is to love about them in the first place. The familiar, upbeat, pop-like, fast tempos are what captivates your attention from the very first note. Nick’s voice opens the song with a catchy melodic line that says, “We go together \ better than birds of a feather, you and me.” The music video was released on the same day with their wives involved in their single.
“Sucker” has the vibes of a grown-up love story with Nick and Joe Jonas resuming their old roles as lead singers, with their voices carrying over electro-beats, catchy guitar riffs, and a percussion beat to really drive the song home. The recording itself is of interesting quality, as the song would not be underneath the old JoBros sound.
Kevin, Joe, and Nick have delivered a reunion that have carried rather high quality riffs from a guitar that while does not sound like the old Jonas Brothers, they have released a new signature sound that have convinced me to stay tune in to continue listening to their music.
