The men’s soccer team’s historic season continues as they looked to begin their season 7-0-1 for the first time in program history against the Saint Michael’s Purple Knights last Tuesday but lost a close one 1-0. The only goal of the match came in the second half only 13 minutes after halftime. Saint Michael’s had a narrow lead in the shot department only ahead of Saint Rose 14-13.

They looked to erase the taste of defeat on Saturday against the Stonehill Skyhawks but could not do so, falling 2-1. The lone goal for Saint Rose was scored by senior Victor Goncalves-Rocha in the second half. The Golden Knights had a few opportunities later in the half to get the equalizer thanks to solid play down the stretch from senior Paulo Sdoia and junior Wari Isaac.

After the two losses, the team is now 6-2-1 and will begin a road trip tomorrow when they travel to Syracuse to take on the 22nd ranked Le Moyne Dolphins.

The women’s volleyball team took on their Upstate Challenge rivals, the Le Moyne Dolphins last Tuesday and took the win, three sets to one (25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21). Three members of the Golden Knights recorded double-digit kill totals. Senior Shayna Webber, junior Stevie Schweitzer, and sophomore Kyla Archie. Senior Sam Kubik also made some history Tuesday night as she passed 2011 grad Theresa Staulo for third all time in assists.

They then traveled on Friday to take on the Adelphi Panthers but lost in a close one, three sets to two (22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 27-25, 10-15). Schweitzer and Webber once again led the team in kills with 13 and 10 respectively.

With these results, the team is now at 10-7 on the season and will return home today to take on the Southern Connecticut State Owls at 7 p.m.

In women’s soccer, the Golden Knights were also in the Upstate Challenge against the Dolphins last Wednesday and won in dominant fashion, pitching a 3-0 shutout. Getting on the scoresheet for Saint Rose were junior Nina Predanic, senior Morgan Burchhardt, and junior Caitlyn Debagian. The team also led Le Moyne in shots with a 13-7 advantage.

They then traveled on Saturday to take on the New Haven Chargers in Connecticut to extend their win streak to five and they did in a commanding victory, 5-0. All five goals for the Golden Knights came in the first half. Two of them were scored by freshman Kaelyn Britt, and Burchhardt, Predanic, and Debagian all had one respectively.

This win gives the team an impressive 4-1-1 record on the road this season and pushes their overall record for the season up to 7-2-1 and will return home today to take on the Saint Michael’s Purple Knights at 6 p.m.

Finally in men’s and women’s cross country, the teams were competing in the RPI Saratoga Invitational on Saturday. The women’s team finished 6th out of 16 teams while the men’s team finished 13th out of 14 teams.

On the women’s side, junior Christine Myers broke the school record in the 5K with a time of 17:50.0. The original record was set by 2017 graduate Michelle Lujan at the same event in 2016.

On the men’s side, junior Rastafari Morgan led the men’s team, finishing the 8K in 17:26.6 .

Next up for the team will be the James Earley Invitational on Saturday in Westfield, Massachusetts.
