On Thursday April 10, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, also known as SAAC recognized student athletes for their academic accomplishments and for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Numerous athletes from each team who represent The College of Saint Rose either in the pool, on the field, or on the court were awarded for their hard work in the classroom.

"It's hard work being a student athlete. Especially with some road trips being almost four hours away on a week night," said Liz Buckley, sophomore guard for the woman's basketball team who was awarded at the event. "It's just nice to be recognized for not only my performance on the court, but also my performance in the classroom."

SAAC, who acknowledged athletes for their dedication academically, is an organization made up of two athlete representatives from each varsity team. These athletes are assembled to provide insight on the student athlete experience, and offer input on the rules, regulations, and polices that affect athletes lives on campus.

"Many people are unaware of the numerous duties of a SAAC representative and how crucial the position is," said Lauren Steinberg, president of SAAC. "Each SAAC representative has the responsibility of making sure that their teammates will be able to excel not only on the field, but also in the classroom."

The College of Saint Rose's Student Athletic Advisory Committee has successfully promoted communication between athletics administration and student athletes, and has therefore generated a voice within the campus athletics department. While promoting a positive student athlete image on campus, SAAC has built a sense of community within the entire athletic program. The committee facilitates better communication among all student athletes from various teams to address common issues.

The committee also serves as a conduit of communication among athletes, coaches, and administrators on issues to improve the student athletes experience and to promote growth and education through sports participation.

While celebrating student athlete's academic accomplishments with National Student Athlete Day, SAAC was also in the process of supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as they do each year.
