With the Democratic Presidential nomination still up in the air; there's one issue that is no longer a big mystery.

The top 12 of American Idol. Now in its seventh season, American Idol still runs strong in it's half a week domination of the Fox network. But this seasons' crop of talent has me wondering, how much farther can American Idol go? In an effort to comfort the fans that watch the show, Randy, Paula and Simon always remark about "this" season being "the best season ever." I would have to strongly disagree.

American Idol's strongest season was season five. The contestants of season five were not only talented, but each artist was diverse. While season four's Carrie Underwood, is the most successful American Idol winner to date besides Kelly Clarkson, it was the contestants of season five that have had the best ride.

Out of the top 12 contestants in season five, five have had mainstream success, while winner Taylor Hicks has hit a rough patch. The country music world welcomed Kellie Pickler, and Bucky Covington with open arms, and Elliott Yamin received stellar reviews for his first album. Katherine McPhee has been performing and her first album did fairly well.

By far the most memorable and successful contestant from season five was Chris Daughtry. Many fans had Daughtry pegged to win the whole show, but fortunately for him, he didn't. Daughtry's rock vocals and bald head took Idol fans by storm. Daughtry, who is now touring with Bon Jovi, also joined seven other Idol contestants nominated for Grammy's. Selling out venues across America, and dominating the rock charts, Daughtry came out on top, despite losing on Idol.

The current season, season seven, has gotten off to the same start as many other seasons. What's American Idol without a little scandal? First there was talk of three ringers in the competition, or people who already have music careers. This season's 16 year old sweetheart David Archuleta was in (of all things) Star Search. After being voted into the top 12, he's got a guaranteed spot on the American Idol tour.
