That day is moving in fast. The one where people either love it, if they're in love, or hate it, if they're not. Yes, Valentine's Day. But this day to celebrate all that is mushy and sappy in the world does not necessarily have to apply to one demographic. Surely lovers can celebrate this holiday, but so can others, albeit in a different manner. Moms and girlfriends should be receiving the same cards on February 14. Below are some gift ideas for the different people in your life that you can spend this holiday with.

THE SIGNIFICANT OTHER
Giving a meaningful gift to your girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, or wife is a challenge. While the classic gifts are just that, some people don't want the cliche fulfilled in the gifts they receive. Take it to the next level by doing something that's unique and innovative is a risk in itself, but one that could pay off a lot more if it succeeds. Many of these gifts stray away from the traditional options and offer something a little in the left field.

THE FRIEND
Purchasing for a friend is always a tough road to go down. There has to be a fine line drawn between two friends exchanging fun gifts that celebrate a holiday, and two friends exchanging gifts with undertones that hint at something more. One route to go that offers less of that balancing act is by way of comedy. If the traditional route is the style of choice, however, sentimentality is an option. Above all, it's important to make sure the right message is being sent.

FAMILY MEMBERS
MOM
Give Mom something she deserves for this special day. There are always classic gift options, such as chocolates and flowers, which usually go over well. But there are different kinds of treats you can get her that come in different boxes. Treating her to a clever gadget that will make her smile, or one that will lighten her workload opens a new set of possibilities.

DAD
For Dad, a twist on the classics is a new option. Retro has made a comeback in recent years and buying him a basket of old treats of yore, or the aftershave his own father used to use, should go over well. Another option could be something both he and mom can share together. A unique day trip that offers fun experiences can surely do the trick.
