Most students hope to graduate and build a career based on the knowledge they have obtained throughout their college years; few students have already paved their own path. August Rosa, Chris Tenerowicz, and Ben Brown have all given themselves the opportunity to study something that they love, while living their dream, everyday.
Rosa, a junior Music Industry and Communications major, has been playing the guitar since grade eight. He has been part of several bands, including the progressive rock group, Aficionado, which has already caught the eye of record labels, including RCA.
Chris Tenerowicz, sophomore Music Industry major, has received much recognition and respect because of his musical talent. He has played guitar for nine years, and is currently a member of Fabulous Funky Freedom, which has been together for about two and a half years.
Fellow Fabulous Funky Freedom member, Ben Brown, has enjoyed playing the drums for almost ten years. Brown said that he has been able to make many connections just from being a Saint Rose student, which has resulted in getting a legitimate recording to send to record labels, and the booking of several local shows.
Rosa agrees, "It's all about networking. Half of our shows usually have at least one Saint Rose member."
Creating music is a talent that not many can conquer, but can be appreciated by all. Rosa, Tenerowicz, and Brown have been able to express ideas and emotions through rhythm and melody, while blending in harmony and color. Because of their hard work, these bands have been able to tour in different states throughout America.
Fabulous Funky Freedom got the opportunity to tour the east coast last year. It was a ten day tour from Maine to Washington, D.C. The band played seven shows. "We were well received," said Brown. "People wanted to hang out after the show. It was a good learning experience."
That experience will not end here. Fabulous Funky Freedom is currently planning another tour for this summer that will take them, and Aficionado, all the way to Las Vegas.
