The Jonas Brothers started off the year strong with their reunion in January 2019. The long awaited reunion of the Jonas Brothers since the 2013 release of “Pom Poms” has been established since the new year with announcements from the Late Late Night show with James Corden in the beginning of the year. After the release of “Sucker” earlier this year in January 2019, the Jonas Brothers surprised their fans with the release of “Cool” on April 5, 2019. There was a video that was also released on the same day, as well.
The Jonas Brothers announced on social media that they were preparing and shooting a new music video called “Cool” on April 5, 2019. The song itself barely comes to a total of three minutes “Cool” has pop-like chart standards that have Billboard Potential. The catchy main chorus of “Cool” is the following: “I’m feeling so cool/top to the bottom, just cool/every little thing that I do/Damnit, I’m feeling so cool.” Despite this part of the song, there are contradictory themes of the single that should be addressed.
“Cool” tells the story of the Jonas Brothers of how they have finally made it to the top and the reflection of the past year from their reunion on. It is under the impression that this was recently written as it makes pop culture references to actors such as James Dean and popular rap artist Post Malone. The Jonas Brothers were also making advertisement posts about “Cool” on their Instagram story prior to the release of it
The song first starts off giving the impression that it would be a slow, acoustic beat, much like Nick Jonas’s solo work from the band. However, during the first or second verse, you can easily see that it is an upbeat, catchy pop song for the upcoming summer season. It is intriguing to hear the subtle differences between “Sucker” and “Cool” in both the style of music as well as the story that can easily be heard throughout both songs. While the instrumentality theme behind the single is rather catchy and can be stuck in your head, there is something to be said about the theme of the single. It seems like there is a theme of being successful means that you have automatically be rich and have multiple top singles on Billboard 100, which is an interesting twist on their music as it is typically about love or a girl in a typical fashion that white males would do in the Music Industry with pop music.
The Jonas Brothers released a new single in which has catchy, pop-like instrumentals with high notes vocal wise coming from Nick and Joe Jonas. There seems to be one part of the song in which it is the hook of the single, which is the only melodic aspect of the single itself.
The band has done an excellent job of maintaining their “signature, pop like sound” that has been maintained since their days from Disney. Despite being removed from the Walt Disney company as the band has aged, it seems as if they are having a rather challenging time escaping that boy band image they built from their Disney days.
It has been stated by Billboard that “Cool” itself has been recently the top added song on streaming services as of April 16, 2019. While “Cool” itself is a rather catchy single, it can be argued that while this song is in fact, catchy and upbeat, it does however not standout from other pop artists and is not a unique single. While the Jonas Brothers have started off strong in the beginning of the year with “Sucker,” “Cool” did not have the same effect as “Sucker” did. There is a lot of excitement around this Jonas Brothers reunion.
