At the age of 19, Jorim Motley, currently performing under the name Pink Nois, can claim that he is a signed artist at the Rose Record Label Group at The College of Saint Rose.

Motley already has several singles out on musical streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify. Along with his recorded singles, Motley has also worked with other musicians and a Rose Record Label alumni, Sydney Schizzano to host a show at Lucky Strike, Jupiter Hall on Jan. 25, 2019.

“I thought Pink Nois was super creative and that he was an excellent songwriter right off the bat,” said Schizzano.

Motley stated that he started to write his original beats at fourteen years old. “They weren’t really that good, but it was something that I enjoyed doing,” Motley said.

Rapping has always been a way of life for the New Rochelle, New York Native. Motley also noted that music has been a huge part of his life, starting out with classical training in grade school with the choir and band programs.

He explained the reason why he got into rapping and creating his own, original beats was actually to the credit of his friends that were in high school. They showed him what it meant to rap, and from then on, Motley knew that was what he wanted to do with the rest of his life: to be a performing artist in the Music Industry.

Jorim Motley was not always Pink Nois. Previously, before being signed with the Label, he went by the artist name of Scott Free. He laughed as he admitted this was not the first time that the he [Pink Nois] changed his name for the changes in his music.

“Scott Free was just too optimistic,” Motley said. “I wanted to be a realist and have a name that reflected who I really was. Plus, the name change was something that the Label and I both agreed on.”

He originally started out with classical training on the saxophone when he was still in grade school, but was introduced to the rap scene at the age of fourteen, thanks to a group of friends from high school that showed him how to rap.

He also gave credit to his high school chorus teacher in introducing the idea of attending The College of Saint Rose and stated that his teacher was the one who encouraged him to attend the College itself.

While Motley typically focuses his original music on rap, he revealed that he is a man of many talents. He has done some vocal work with Dr. Susan Boddie’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble in the Fall of 2018. He recently started teaching himself drum kit, and can also play piano. He can sometimes also be spotted using his saxophone at gigs.

“It has always been a personal dream of mine since high school to work with the Rose Record Label Group,” said Motley. “It was a long process, but certainly something that I would do all over again. Absolutely no regrets. I am so happy to be a recording artist with the Label. It has been an absolutely amazing experience, and everything that has happened to me as an artist is because of the hard work that the label puts into my career,”

Motley also said that he always wanted to come to The College of Saint Rose primarily because his high school choral director recommended the Industry program to him in his senior year of college. “The reason why I came to The College of Saint Rose was because of the Label itself,” Motley said.

Motley’s musical influences include Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, and Frank Ocean. The genre of his music is predominantly R&B infused with Hip-Hop elements to create capitativing and energizing beats.

“Pink Nois’ music has a different twist to it. In a very slow song, it is very easy to vibe too, and yet, his music can also make you literally start dancing along to it. He has fantastic beats, and his music is always interesting. He’s always very impressive, yet somewhat never the same. That’s my favorite part about him,” said Music Industry student Juliana Castrillon.
