The College of Saint Rose hosted their first doubleheader of the season at Plumeri Sports Complex Saturday, resulting in a pair of losses.

On a blustery day where the temperature hit a high around 38 degrees, Le Moyne College took Saint Rose to 12 innings in the latter of the doubleheader, edging out the win with a score of 1-0.

The winning run came on a bases-loaded hit-batter, ending the chance for the Golden Knights to split wins with the visiting Dolphins.

The Golden Knights lost the first game 4-0. Senior pitcher Michael Pastore was on the hill for the second game, throwing a solid seven innings, giving up only two hits, and striking out 14 batters.

Junior relief pitcher Caleb Gregg came in for Pastore, and picked up where he left off by not allowing a hit in 1.2 innings.

From there Senior Joe Pokrentowski threw the final 3.1 innings, giving up two hits and striking out six batters.

Just like the second game, the first one had little offense, and only saw runners cross home plate in the fourth and fifth innings for Le Moyne.

Junior Dominic Razzano had the ball for Saint Rose in the opening game, where he threw many strikes and had the Le Moyne batters on their heels until his final two innings.

Razzano, who was given no offense, struck out eight batters in his 5.2 innings of work, while surrendering three runs and another coming off an error.

The Dolphins put the bat to the ball in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff walk, infielder Nick Place drove the ball to center, setting up runners on first and second.

A balk by Razzano moved the runners into scoring position with only one out. Following the mistake Razzano grooved a pitch to the outside corner, resulting in a basesclearing double by infielder Gabe Levanti, putting the Dolphins up 2-0.

In the next inning, Razzano surrendered another run and Place was involved yet again. Shooting the ball to the outfield, scoring the runner from second and moving the runner up on first.

It seemed like the top of the fifth was never going to end after a costly error was committed by Saint Rose, scoring another run from a dropped pop fly.

Saint Rose had a chance to get on the board later in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh for the Golden Knights they had runners on second and first, but couldn’t come away with a run.

The Golden Knights were attacking again in the eighth, having a runner on first.

They attempted to steal second but were thrown out; a quick out by the next batter ended their chances to score.

After a long eight innings of work, Le Moyne right-hander Damian Powers walked away with the win, having given up seven hits and no runs.

Other strong performances for Saint Rose came from junior relief pitcher Alex Tomlinson, who allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings.

Saint Rose falls to 1-17 on the season. Their next home game is a matchup with American International, April 11 at 4:30 p.m.
