Senior Macky Lloyd is a three sport athlete here at Saint Rose. Lloyd competes in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field.

Lloyd has said in the past that his family has had a great influence on him, including in his nickname.

His full name is William Mackenzie Lloyd, the nickname Macky comes from his extended family. His mother’s side of the family has a tradition of making nicknames for each other by using an abbreviation of their middle names. Mackenzie was turned into Macky when he was little, and he has gone by that name ever since.

Lloyd is from the town of Voorheesville, NY, not very far from Albany. The only schools he applied to are Saint Rose and UAlbany. He said he was a very confident runner at Voorheesville High School.

“I thought I was better than I was,” said Lloyd.

He claimed to have good times, but that his problem was that he didn’t max out on his potential. His sister, Lauryn, played basketball and rugby for Saint Rose’s conference rival, Saint Michael’s.

Lloyd said that his favorite part of Saint Rose is, “the small atmosphere, I know everybody, or almost everybody by face,” he also added that he loves the student-teacher interaction.

He said that going to nationals last year on behalf of the indoor track team was his best accomplishment in athletics.

“That was my goal since I stepped on campus as a freshman,” he said.

Lloyd added that although he ran terribly, he enjoyed the experience very much, adding that it didn’t bother him too much because he knows he will be back.

Lloyd said he wants to keep running after graduation, he said he might redshirt in outdoor track this spring. If he were to redshirt, it would allow him to run on the outdoor track team next year when he attends Saint Rose’s graduate school for childhood education.

When he finishes grad school he would like to keep moving with a career in running. He says his times right now aren’t that great, but if he can get up to his full potential he can hopefully get a small contract with a shoe company or a team in reference to local, competitive running teams that are fairly abundant in New York. Maybe even a chance to run in the Olympic trials. Lloyd said he is hopeful that he will make a little money out of a career in running.

When asked about what he would say to a student-athlete considering attending Saint Rose, Lloyd said that they give you the tools you need.

“You get out of it what you put in,” said Lloyd.

Lloyd has put a lot into it. He has been to nationals, he was second team all-conference in his junior season in cross-country, for his work athletically. He was named to the NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the spring semester, in honor of his work in the classroom.
