Renovations of Alumni Hall….Lack of hard work or laziness?

By EDWIN ESCOBAR

Alumni Hall; the place where every student wants to live at least one year out of the four while attending The College of Saint Rose. Alumni Hall is mostly known for its comfortable living environment consisting of 13 six-person suites; all including a bathroom, 3 double rooms, and a common room. This residence hall, as most students know, has been renovated over the past summer and has been equipped with new flooring, ceilings, windows, and a new air conditioning/heating system. The kitchen and laundry room has also been newly refurbished and given a new look. The new and appealing look had many first time residents astonished and impressed with the looks of the building, but little did they know, the renovations would need further renovating as many problems started to arise; sewage backup, plumbing issues, low water pressure, absence of TV jacks in the common room, and horrendous Wi-Fi connection.

Zach Mainville, a resident of Alumni 101, describes the problems as “an unproductive way of spending our tuition money”. In speaking with Martha Myers with regards to the problems in Alumni Hall, she stated, “I have had many complaints from Alumni Hall and we have contacted the contractors to return and fix these problems.” Dan Marchione stated that “it’s upsetting because we looked forward to living here and it’s miserable.” The things that could have gone wrong, have gone wrong.

On the other hand, Alumni has been given good reviews by some of the residents living here. RA Raven describes Alumni Hall as “clean and spacious.” She goes on to say, “I love how the new building looks and I am happy with my residents”. Alumni has never looked any better than it does now. It is a huge improvement from the conditions last year with the filthy rugs, dingy bathrooms, and worn out appliances. Hopefully these issues will be fixed sooner rather than later and be done to the satisfaction of both Residence Life and the Office of Facilities.
