A new exhibit opened at The College of Saint Rose in the Massry Center for the Arts gallery on Friday night. The gallery is showcasing Judy Linn’s many years of work. Linn is a black and white photographer and earned her master’s from Pratt Institute.

An art major named Jason Neal said it was like looking at an autobiography of Linn’s life. The pictures displayed her friends such as Patti Smith and Detroit.

The art gallery was filled with students, staff members, and the public who were interested in seeing Linn’s work.  Some art major students had never heard of Linn before they attended Saint Rose. They all had one similar reaction to Linn’s work— they loved it and said they would most likely follow her in the future.

“If the pictures were in color, the pictures would have lost something,” said Julia Miller, a student who found Linn’s work interesting. Miller also stated how she loved Linn’s usage of people’s expressions, which “added depth to them.”

The gallery was not only filled, but the lecture hall was also packed. The artist was answering questions during her speech and showing more pictures of her work that was not included in the gallery.  Linn kept the audience entertained with her many little jokes.

A student name Michelle Mallardi said, “I appreciate her work because it is raw,” referring to Linn not changing her work in anyway.

Referring to her pictures, Linn said, “It just has to look good to me.”
