It’s Time To Stop Romanticizing Killers

There’s no doubt that the recent shooting in Las Vegas is one of the worst ones in American history. With 58 dead and nearly 500 wounded its clear something needs to be done about the way we as a nation handle the coverage of these events.

It feels as though every time another shooting happens the media does nothing but spread the killers name and methods of their various attacks instead of covering what really matters; the victims.

Instead of covering the lives of those lost, the media focuses on the horrible acts that the shooter has committed. Why is it that the killer gets more screen time than of his victims? I bet that you could probably not list a single of the deceased, but instead can list the building the killer shot from, the floor he was on, and even the weapon he used.

Every time the media spreads the most recent killer’s name and his methods, all they’re doing is spreading the message to young and mislead Americans that if they want recognition or some sort of fame all they need to do is find the nearest large crowd.

Instead of showing the horrendous aftermaths of the shootings, the media opts to shower the killer in infamy, which just leads the many who suffer from mental health problems down this horrible path instead of showing them there are ways to get help.

Next time, instead of plastering the killer everywhere, focus on the victims lost and the many resources for those who need help with their mental health.
